I am reporting to Ft. Gordon for 25S school in October. I am wondering if anyone can tell me about the conditions for prior service/Re-class personnel.

This course is so long that my orders are cut as "PCS status" instead of TDY en-route ...but I won't move my family and sell my home for only a 9-10 month course....I was wondering if re-class 25S's still live on base in prior service barracks or whether they're forced to live off post since they get BAH??

Also, I was wondering how the rooms are? Do you get your own room? Or do you share one? Are there community bathrooms or private for each room?

If there's any prior service/re-class personnel out there who have left AIT at Gordon lately I would appreciate their input.....

Thanks...
SGT Webb

Welcome.

Im prior service Navy at Ft Gordon right now. I think we are in a similar situation since I also have PCS orders that did not authorize a PCS move. The bottom line is you can stay in the barracks as long as theres room, but if the barracks get filled you will be on you own to provide housing.

Only TDY orders are authorized to stay off post on the gov'ts dime. I think its pretty unfair since they dont authorize you to move your home...but it all worked out for me since they had room in the barracks. Barracks life is ok. Chow halls are decent here.

One thing I strongly reccomend is that you make sure you get here with your car somehow. Change your ticket at the airport if you have to, but dont get stuck here with out a car...it really really sucks.

One of my Soldiers just got back and I got some good info from him. He is an E6 that reclassed into 25S I think, I'm an E6 reclassing to 25B.

He said you will be in the old ANCOC building, which has free cable and internet, 2 man rooms (a little cramped) with bathrooms shared by 2 rooms (4 people). Or you will be in the Navy barracks, great rooms but no free internet, or some other barracks that have no free internet (you can buy it). If none of those are available you will be off post at a hotel, which is nice except for the 0515 PT formations with a 20-30 minute commute.

I was told the chow halls are wonderful, and to go to the chow hall nearest the Navy billeting. Also there is a chow hall that serves midnight chow.

Beyond that he said MPs will ticket for 1 mph over the speed limit.

You will be assigned to a non-IET company, and will do nothing with IETs except attend class. Except for the two FTXs (about 4 days each) you will get the weekends off. Depending on rank you might get suckered into PSG or squad leader duty... I'm sure with E6 I'll end up with that crap, E5 probably squad leader. Not too much BS just accountability and such.

I'm looking forward to the training but not to being away from home for so long... I don't have the option of PCS, my school is 19 weeks.

I don't know if I will be much help, but my husband re classed to 25S and he is an E5. He just started class on Monday, but he gets to come home every night and the weekends. We lived in Germany before this and we got PCS orders because his training is 26 weeks and 2 days. From the sounds of it next week they are going to be in different rotations a morning class, late afternoon, and an overnight class because there are so many people to train. Like I said I dont know if that helped you being that we live off post and he isnt living in the barracks, but I hope it did. If you have any questions feel free to ask and I can always ask him.

I will be going back there in a few months as a SGT to reclass to 25B (been out of the army for 4 years).. I was there back in 1998 for 31S (now 25S) course and then the ASI 1C course.. stayed there from NOV 98 to JAN 00 .. Lucky me... I'm interested in this FTX (i think its called FOB?) that they want us to do ... What will be expected of SGTs while there.. Its been so long since i've done CTT training and I was strategic for my six years.. hope i remember what i need Smile

I am PS and I am reenlisting into 25p. While in AIT will I have to stay in the same barracks as the soldiers coming from BCT? How long does it normally take before classes actually start?

You aint gonna get a ticket for 1 over. Maybe possibly in a housing area or school zone, but main post you won't. You will get one for a cell phone now. They are strict on that.
