I've proud to say re-enlisted in the Army Reserve. Back when I went through AIT with F-3-1 (F Troop!), the MOS was 26Y. Thankfully, I don't look 40 so I shouldn't stick out too much.
After getting ASI P1 (AN/FSC-78 and AN/GSC-39) I did two years with the 327th Signal Co at DCS Station Landstuhl. After that, I did two years at The White House Communications Agency. I ETS'ed in 1989. lol, I bet I have the earliest SatCom MOS date of any E-5 in the Army. I had always wanted to join the Reserves and get my 20, but would never accept a postion other than SatCom. With a required EL of 120, I loved that I had the job that required the highest ASVAB scores in the Army. I just didn't think it would take 18 years for the USAR to get those slots.
So, here I am back in uniform. My wife is a reservist and is lending me some ACUs for my first drill. I have mixed feeling about the ACUs and beret. Whoever thought velcro was a good idea should be flogged. And to me, suede boots look unmilitary.
I still need to lose a few pounds (6 pounds over-weight, but made tape) and work on my push-ups, but I'm gung-ho (or is that "high-speed" now-a-days?) and ready for a new challenge.
Hey Joe, My DH (that's Dear not dam..lol) is going to BCT on the 18th. He will be 25S also, and scored a 117 on asvab. I know what you mean about that feeling of achievement in getting into signal corps, I can see the pride on his face and I feel it too! I'm so glad to hear the positives about SatCom! And what you did afterwards is awesome! AIT is very long as you know for 25S (26 weeks, 4 days), but I think it will be well worth it for him and will pay off for us all in the long run. I'm 40 and he's 35 (doesn't look it either!!), so he'll be the old man in the group I'm sure..even though I don't consider us old...lol! Good luck with everything!
Hi, my son is at Ft. Gordon waiting for his training to begin. He is a 25S. On these forums I read a lot about 25U's but not much about 25S. What is the difference between the two MOS's? Is one better than the other?
