Basic Training |
I have found out that after over a year in the Army they are finally going to send me to school for my contract MOS. (I hold two MOS's now, none of which are what I signed on for.) SO, my orders have me going to Tobyhanna, PA for MOSQ.
Anybody been? What are the places to see, things to do? How are the quarters? How are the instructors? Is this going to be any better or worse than Ft. Gordon? I'm looking at 2 months at Tobyhanna vs. 6 @ Ft. Gordon. So, I'm worried that I'm not going to get the same training that I would at the normal school. Thanks for your comments. |

I went to ToAD once, for 2 days, as a contractor. Long time ago (1989), don't remember much, except that Harrisburg seemed to be a pretty boring place.
Also, the post itself just seemed to be miles and miles of warehouses. Sorry I can't be more help. |

I've worked there since 1980. The barracks have been updated, the PX and commissary are small. There are actually less than 6 permanantly assigned military, 4K DoD civilians. Training facilities are adequate. The primary mission is overhauling electronics for all branches. Yes, there is a lot of storage, but it's a depot, not a Hood or Gordon. Couple hours from Philly/NY, 30 min. to Scranton, a bit longer to Wilkes Barre. One casino 20 min., 40 to the other. Tobyhanna is small town, there is a fair amount of nightlife and other things to do within a short (hr) drive.

Thanks for the responses. I got a brief on what to prepare for. One of the points was lots of Civilians so whatever. Good training then.
I was told that military housing and meals are not available. Whats around for food and lodging seeing how I'm gonna be on my own. |
