Hi! I have an AN/PRS-4 Mine Detector. I read an article that stated that this device is/was actually part of the Engineer Coprs inventory, butit has Signal Corps nomenclature, could any body clue me into why this would be? Also, could any one tell me where I could find the TM 5-9541 manual or the serial or model numbers of the batteries that go with this unit, or possibly the name of the batteries manufacturer. Thanks. Craig

Its Vietnam Era but the nomenclature is joint service. Army Navy Personal Radio Sensor v4 its a transmitter with audio feedback reception.

Detector, Mine, Non-metalic, Audio frequency, Mutual inductance, tubes: 1U4, 2 ea 1U5, 5676, CK522, 67.5 and 1.5 VDC, 57 Lbs.

CR-123 photo batteries work great in this unit and are an exact fit. These are avalible from Radio Shack for about $23.00 a set.

Why in Signal ? Because no one else could fix them. 05B's and then 31V's were the closest repair/troubleshooting option available to most folks without sending them off somewhere.

Again, thank you for your information, I went to Radio Shack and looked at the battery you specified, it is very tiny and the terminals are not at all like the ones on the unit itself, the terminals in the unit resemble the ones for a 9V radio battery, and the battery compartment is much larger than one that would hold the small batteries you mentioned, I don't see any way that I could even assemble sevral of these batteries to make them work, butm again, thanks for your imput

You'll need to get a list of the MWO (modification work orders) for that device. Originally it used mercury batteries and a series of MWO's later it progressed through carbon to lithium.

I am not currently on active duty, how would I go about getting these "modification work orders" if I am not currently serving? I tried to go on a few sites that have Army Publications, but they were all restricted to active duty personel and required a User Name and Password to log on,(I was looking for the TM 5-9541 that accompamied this device.)You seem quite knowledgeable on these decvices. Thank you for your taking the time and putting forth the effort to assist me, I really appreciate it.

Out standing information! O341, were in in Mortors? I was a USMC and held an 0341 MOS and was an 81 MM Mortorman, among other things. Leave it to a "Grunt" to have the "straight dope." Thanks very much. Craig
