I am currently a college grad and have two years of civilian work experience as a network technician/administrator. I was wondering if anyone here knows anything about the following MOS(25b or 25f) other than what is displayed on the goarmy website......Thanks in advance.
Ok I read another post below about most 25bs only getting to do desktop support and help desk, how about 25f? In my two years of experience I've managed antivirus and mail services and configured and setup network switches and routers and I would hate to have to do just desktop support.....any insite is much appreciated....
f trasnformed to 25n. pretty much the same stuff just more updated technology. All signal now these days does a lil of every other signal job and b's do more htan just the help desk and emails
15020265, I am 25b and I did more than desktop support. I worked in the brigade 6 shop. our boss let us all get our hands on the whole picture that way everyone of us could get the job done. our brigade even had command and control of an area while were were in Iraq. we imaged computers, checked for security violations, installed cat5 25nipr drops 45 sipr drops each in 13 buildings. configured all the switches and routers. as they said f is dead, and an N is pretty much a 25b except you specialize in cisco switches that are in commo shelters
Ok well thanks for the input seems like I have a decision to make.....because I currently do Cisco switches along with some of the stuff that the 25b mos does......and I enjoy doing both. If I choose 25b, after AIT I guess I'll have to just bring my Cisco Switch with me from home once I get settled in at my duty station. Thanks again....one more question, what is the promotion potential for the 25b.....

why would you bring a switch with you, you will get to mess with plenty of them. I dont know much about the promotion possiblities on the active side, they should be pretty good. pfont, maybe he wants to do the work instead of telling people to work. now if he wants to create policy and be in command of troops officer is the way to go.
I was looking at going enlisted for about a year or so and then applying for officer training school.....the reason I said I would bring my own is because I have a friend that is a 25b and he is in Iraq right now and he says that all he does is sit behind a desk and wait for something to break......but I'm assuming every experience is different depending on where your duty station is. Thanks for the input. I'm at the hotel, just got back from MEPS earlier and I scored an 80 on the asvab. Hopefully there is a slot open for a 25b, if not I'm just going to wait it out until one comes open. Thanks again.....
yes, I am sure you could run into the situation where you sit and wait. for my whole 18months 12 in country it was constant work, while in iraq I worked 12-16 hour days 7 days a week. one day off ever 2 weeks.
There weren't any 25b slots open, so I chose 25f and I ship to basic(ft jackson) on monday and my ait is at ft gordon. I thought that they were phasing out the 25f mos?
Yes, but until there are no unit MTOES with 25F slots the schools will still produce them. They still have a requirement for that MOS that has to be met regardless if its helpful in the long run to the soldier.
Ok, well I'm hearing that 25f has nothing to do with computers.......if so I think we may have a little problem. From my understanding from the description it would lead one to believe that it deals with nctwork switches, routers, telecommuncations, etc. If not, hopefully they will say that they need anymore of those and I get 25b later on down the road. Thanks again.
Once you sign your contract, you can try to renegotiate it, but you are stuck with the MOS you choose once you go in.
If you want to be an officer a year after you enlist, why don't you do it now? There are not many good reasons to enlist first then go to OCS if you have a college degree.
I incurred some debt while I was getting my degree and it will allow me to pay that 5k off of unsecured debt and get a new start. I was told that if went as an officer I wouldn't have the chance to get a bonus or anything.
