25N is right now a temporary bridge MOS that mostly employs COTS (commerical off the shelf) equipment.
Unless you're a Signal Warrant or Officer dont expect to do anything more than implemenet others plans. DOIM is very specific on the things you are not allowed to do. |

sooooo your syaing this mos dosnt do anything either.... I find this very hard to believe.
why would the govenment put thousnds of dollars into soilders and not use them? Ive been reading the signal corps section of the board for a few days, and your all so negative saying how much your job sucks and how all the other 25 series jobs dont do jack as well. Like I said I have a hard time believing it.. |

Wow..thats sucks guys. Like I said it makes no sense? why does the army hire outside contractors when they could put just a bit more training into you guys, and everyone would be happy? most of you seem to know what your doing s well some of you have B.A and work expirence.
I guess its just the way things are |

It's all politics... I don't think any soldier agrees with it... unless they have stock in some of those companies.... You may see things change sometime in the future.... |

also what Im begining to understand is no ones expirience is the same. 25b is a perfect example tons of people see it as a waste of time, but ive also seen people say how much they love thier jobs. |

I am a 25b and I love it, I actually have been doing it, altho for this deployment I am not slotted as 25b. 25n isnt bad either you could work in a signal company, netops most likely configing switches and what not, the 25b holds the users hands plugs in pwr cords, a little bit a desktop support. |

Just so you all know, the 25N is a new MOS that works with the JNN/CPN concept. Some of the stuff you will be learning is Cisco, Redcom, Promina, Cisco Call Manager, etc. The reason the operators "don't do anything" (wish somebody woulda told my 2 JNNs and 8 CPNs that...they worked their butts off in Iraq!) is that the equipment is still under contract with GD and DataPath. DOIM has neither jack nor **** to do with it. Find yourself the 250N Warrant in charge of a BDE NETOPS. That Soldier will decide what you can and can't 'touch'.

I did guard duty, but that's because we were the schizz and actually kept the machine up and running with nearly 98% uptime. Twice a day I refueled it and once a week blew dust ouf of the stacks, but for the most part I didn't have to do anything with the CPN or the stacks. |

so, is 25n mostly networking? I was under the impression it was in the area of network admin. I chose the MOS because of that, coming from the navy that MOS would fall under IT but with army MOS's being specific its kinda rough to decide. The only prob i can say i have with swapping branches is basically starting over. Any info on 25n that you guys can share would be great.
