Just swore in as a 25P on active duty. Signal was not my first choice and I am trying to find as much info as i can on the details of the job. Getting pretty freaked out that I can't find many discussions about 25p and even more freaked out by all the horror stories about Ft. Gordon. Alot of them are older posts, so I'm looking for more current info.
Also, I am a woman, would my job duties be different than my male comrades? I also heard that reclassing out of this MOS is difficult because of the length of time they spend training you..I'm working on an online degree in something completely unrelated.. Thanks! |

All has been quiet here at Ft Gordon. It is the slow time of year and rolling into the exodus period. Nothing crazy right now though.

You can bring a laptop, although I would not recommend it. They are a hot item for thefts. Like I said, it is slow around here right now, but during the summer it seemed like we had at least one laptop a day being stolen.

I just got done at Gordon. I was there for seven months.
Fort Gordon is boring, like most Army bases are. The surrounding town, Augusta, isn't one I particular enjoyed, either. Savannah and Atlanta are cool towns, but Augusta, to me, is kind of a drag. Theft is bad there. There's no doubt about that. I had like $2500 worth of electronics in my locker. However, in seven months, the only thing I had stolen from me was a $10 folding chair. If I had put it in my locker it wouldn't have gotten stolen, but I left it out. If you keep your stuff secure, you shouldn't have any problems. Most people's stuff gets stolen when they leave it out or leave without locking their locker. Make sure you lock your ****. Make sure you have a decent lock, not a wimpy one. Make sure you have any expensive items listed on your high dollar value item sheet. If someone manages to get your stuff despite all of the above, you'll likely get reimbursed. Oh, and don't leave your laundry unattended. Your uniforms will walk off. All and all, Fort Gordon isn't THAT bad. It's mainly the restrictions that AIT comes with that makes it suck. Just my two cents. |

Your job will be the same if you want it to be the same. I won't say the Army treats everyone the same, it depends on where you're at and how you look at it. You should bring your laptop if you can remeber to keep it locked up. If you are new to the Army you'll hate most of AIT, they have you locked down pretty good. Privaleges are granted in phases to include bedchecks, wearing civilian clothing, going off post and other stuff. Make the most of it and it will go by fast. Good luck!

14 stolen laptops in Nov and Dec, and Dec ain't even over yet. 17 in June, July, August. That's just reported ones. They are stolen in the open, rooms are broken into, wall lockers are busted into. Better put GPS on it, or attach a dummy cord. I wouldn't bring it, but I will be glad to enter it into the national database after I send the police.
You also won't get reimbursed right now because there have been so many of them. Stop taking life so seriously, you're not getting out alive anyway. |
