I'm reclassing from 15D to 25s for the Florida national guard out of Jacksonville. From what I've read there seems to be a post in Sacramento where 25S can go for training if they take the "tactical" route. However after MUCH googling I've been unable to figure out what the name of this installation is or how I will be able to make sure I go there instead of Gordon. I don't want to get into the Gordon AIT topic but I've read all there is to read, both good and bad and I think spending 9 months somewhere is warrant enough to make sure you choose the right place. ANY information on 25S and or the National Guard would be a big help.
Just so everyone knows my recruiter didn't even realize there was tactical and strategic for 25S, so no help there.
I just glanced at the links real quick, but I wanted to reply before I really got into reading them. I think that is exactly what I was looking for. We all know how we are told one thing in the army and tomorrow thats completely different and a piece of paper we signed now shows that what we were told yesterday was wrong. So I just want to make sure I have everything squared away. This will help a lot.
I've read up on the courses, but I still can't figure out what determines if a person goes to CA or GA. From what I'm hearing, which could very well be incorrect or out of date, both strategic and tactical (Guard and Active) train at Gordon and just tactical guard and reserve train at BT Collins.
You should be sent to the class on ATTRS that your admin NCO enrolls you for, be it California or Georgia. As to the differences between the two, I couldn't tell you.. the Gordon school is 6 months in length for the tactical track, including both phases. There was one individual in my class that left after phase I to go to the second phase in California.. the instructors at Gordon told him the curricula in Sacramento wasn't recognized by the Signal School, but that could be chalked up to localized pride, I'm not sure.
hmmm, I guess its just one of those things where the national guard reserve wants to do their own thing or whatever. I just like to travel and going to CA for free would be nice. I think I have everything I need to know. I may have more questions come next week when I get back into town.
Sorry I have to drag up a dead post. I am currently signing as 25s myself. After reading about Ft. Gordon and its issues I was starting to get worried. I wanted to know how can I get sent here for AIT? I see the op was National Guard so I didn't know if there was a difference in our AIT. Any help getting here and not Gordon would be great thanks.
All IET 25S go to Ft. Gordon. Active, Guard, or Reserve.
Ft. Gordon is what it is. AIT isn't great. You learn your job and that is its purpose. I got out of there June 4th and to my actual Guard unit. It's been great since. And during my time with my B 551 I'd seen a lot of changes. For both better and worse.
It's what you make of it. It can drive you crazy. It isn't the greatest place on Earth. Just do your best, don't get in trouble, do what you have to, and it is easy.
