My bf graduates July 10th. He's not allowed to come home to Fl for some reason, and has to go directly to tech school. He's in security forces, and I believe the school is in Lackland. So anyway, I'll be in San antonio til the Monday after his graduation. Will they give him time off after Sunday or will I be able to see him at all on Monday?
And security forces tech school is 16 weeks, am I correct?

Thank you! Smile

everyone goes straight to tech school after bmt, that's normal. also, security forces tech school is on lackland, your correct about that. he might have some free time monday night, depending on how his in-processing goes.

I believe the SF guy I was on RAP with said it was 14 weeks, not 16. It may have changed or he may have underestimated or I may be misremembering, but I believe that is what he told me. Additionally, the guys that stayed at Lackland for SF tech school that were in my flight basically did nothing Monday night after their initial in-processing. I saw them that afternoon at one of the Shoppettes buying a bunch of junk food and soda and they said they were just chilling in their rooms for the rest of the day. YMMV, however.

Thank you.
But I honestly dont know what to believe. My bf was told 16 weeks, then I've read 14, 18, and a bunch of different things on this website..
And about the monday after graduation.. I've heard a million differnt stories.. I guess it depends on each time and the circumstances..
freaking military.. so unpredictable! Razz

thanks for your response though. =)

All I can say is I hope you all are not getting married just to make things easier during tech school etc. Please tell me you were very seriously considering marriage before he joined the Air Force.

Anyway, normally Airmen get town pass on Friday after graduation and all day Saturday. Sunday town pass is normally only given to those who made Thunderbolt or Warhawk or were in an Honor/Warrior Flight. That being said, it is at the discretion of his squadron/MTI. Town pass/base lib can be and has been revoked on graduation weekend. Either they changed it since December or your boyfriend is confused. That just seems weird because when I was at BMT I knew exactly when my town pass and base lib were.

Oh, no. We had talked about this for a while now. We hadn't planned it to be so soon, but it will be fine.
I don't think it's changed. I looked on the brochure that he sent me with the car pass thingy and everything. And that says town pass Friday and Saturday, so I know it's not changed. I think he's probably confused, it happens sometimes.. Smile It is weird that he doesn't know for sure, but I'm not surprised he's confused lol.
Thanks!~!

hey jess-my boyfriend is done with security forces tech school on thursday and the length is 13 weeks with exactly 65 training days that have to be completed. i asked him about the monday night thing and he said that possibly after your boyfriend is done with out processing he may be allowed to hang out on base but since he is going to be in phase 1 he can't leave the base and might not even be able to get a hotel pass from his MTI. Phase 1 is when he has the least amount of free time. Well i hope this helps cuz i have a boyfriend who just went through all of this because he is security forces too so i pretty much know how it is according to him.

Just a minor correction, but in Tech School they are called MTLs, not MTIs. Smile MTLs are a totally separate career from MTIs. At any rate, if he has free time he can leave his dorm and hang out with you on base. As was mentioned, he'll be Phase 1 and won't be allowed to leave base at all. And I would say that the chances of him getting a hotel pass on his first night at tech school are slim to none and slim left town.

Good luck!

ok.. so tech school is 13 weeks, then? so it's 65 days, not including weekends right?
I don't know why he was told that it was like 16-18 weeks then.
Lol MTL, MTI.. don't know what that is, but I'm guessing that's the person he has to ask permission from..
ok, so I guess I won't know til like that day, huh?
darn. Smile
How many phases are there, and how long are they?

there are three phases all together and the length of each one depends on how well the teams perform. my bf got phased up and phased down quited a few times because people were caught shoplifting and doing stupid stuff and while they got kicked out of the military the rest of the people who didnt do anything had to pay for it by beig put back to phase one and losing certain privileges. MTI was the only name my boyfriend referred to his instructors as and it stands for military training instructor. i've never heard MTL so i don't know whats what with that Cool

MTI=Military Training Instructor or TI's as they call them at BMT. MTL=Military Training Leader at Tech school. Wink

I wasn't in tech school at Lackland, but I recall hearing one time something about MTIs being instructors there. Perhaps that is who he was referring to. At the vast majority of tech schools, however, the NCOs that are in charge of students are called MTLs - Military Training Leaders. They have a different AFSC from MTIs and an entirely different role.
