Hi, I just got back from MEPS and I was wondering if anyone has information that the liason probly didnt tell me about theses jobs. Thanks.
- Fire Protection - EOD - Nuclear weapons - Air Transportation - Tactical Aircraft Maintenance - Aerospace Maintenance - Aircraft Armament Systems
Anything on duties (deployed and at home) deployment lengths, hours, anything would be great. and the liason said for EOD I needed Top security clearance, if someone could tell me about that and how I would qualify for it would be great...and anyone have an idea on how long it takes for me to find out what job I get? thanks again!
Top Secret clearance requires a thorough background check. You need to provide all kinds of information on family members, places you have lived, worked, attended school, and people ***ociated with each of those.
They need to ensure that you can be trusted to the utmost.
The clearance takes awhile to get.
It can also be a valuable ***et once you leave the military, if you want to work for a company that goes certain kinds of work for the government. If you already have the clearance that is thousands of dollars they don't have to pay and lots of time they don't need to waste to get you to work.
Apparently "***ocated" is a bad word around here? What gives?

Clean up that dirty language...sheesh! No need to curse at the OP! heh.
Hmm when I read and signed the waiver for EOD it said I only needed a secret clearance.I put down all the jobs that you have except for fire protection and air transportation.

Anything Maintenance you can expect to work long duty hours. Expect to get called in on holiday breaks when it is your turn in the rotation.
It is nice to say you actually touch aircraft though. MX can be a rewarding field also. I wouldn't take anything away from the other jobs either.
When I went to basic, towards the end, after they have handed out all the jobs, they took groups of us to a room and had us start processing the paperwork for our security clearances. (You also get to do a little personal interview) The processing is pretty much you sitting at a computer typing about your previous life. You basically need to go back about 10 years and give all the addresses you lived at, plus some number (3 maybe? I can't remember) of people who knew you at those addresses as references. Don't pick your crackhead buddy to be one of these guys because they will send people to interview these folks and ask about you. They also want a job history as well. If I were you, I would get that information NOW and then be prepared to type it all in when the time comes instead of trying to think back about it while you are sitting at basic.
You may need TS clearance for your job, but the paperwork may take longer than your tech school. Some people will end up going to their first base without a clearance and still need to wait on them.
If you are married to a foreign national, that will delay your clearance time a little bit.
Every 10 years you need to do the same paperwork for your Secret level and every 5 years you will need to do the same paperwork for your Top Secret level.
you need a TS investigation to do POTUS missions, also some of our other (classified) missions require a TS/SCI. While it's true you can go through school on a Secret, you need a TS to be any sort of an EOD operator.
