Basic Training |
Hi, I'm new here. I am working on getting prepared to be physically and mentally ready for BMT and the USAF.
I know that to be physically ready I should do push-ups, pull-up, crunches, and run. However I was wondering what are some of the exercises that are done in BMT and PT? |

pretty simple..
run 1.5 miles, try to get under 12 min (minimum at basic) be able to consistantly run 20 minutes (thats how long they start you running at basic) push ups (45/min) when you go down your elbow should bend 90 degrees sit ups (50/min) arms crossed on chest, elbows must touch legs pull ups are optional you will also be doing flutter kicks, you can practice if you want, but they aren't tested ^^ going by their website This message has been edited. Not really accurate. We did 12 minutes of indian runs followed by a 2-3 minute walk. Then we did 14 minutes of self-paced runs followed by a 2-3 minute walk. Then we did 6 intervals of 60-second sprints with 1-minute walks in between. We did this from 1 WOT until 5 WOT. It never once changed.[/quote] The rest is pretty accurate. To be honest, the types of exercises you are doing doesn't really matter. It is not necessary to "prepare" yourself in any special way other than to generally get yourself "in shape." If you want to do push-ups and sit-ups so you are a little bit ahead of the game, do that. Those, after all, are what are required to p*** your PT test. The other aspect of it is running. Just go run at least every other day. Mix it up. One day, do a long slow run and just run as long as you can (shoot for 30+ minutes). Another day, do some interval sprints. Sprint for 1 minute, walk for 1 minute. Or walk for just 30 seconds if that's better for you. Or sprint for 100 meters, walk for 100 meters if you're on a track. Another day, run 2 miles for time. Or run 1.5 miles for time if you want. The idea is just to do different types of running. Don't do the same style every time. PT at BMT is styled to get someone from a low fitness level to graduation standards in 6 weeks. I was horribly out of shape when I got there. I believe my first PT test was 15 minute 1.5 mile (almost a walk for crying out loud), 27 push-ups, and like 30 sit-ups. By graduation, I did 11:20 1.5 mile, 48 push-ups, 50 sit-ups. They will get you in shape. Just put your all into PT every day. |

That depends on the person. If you know you are weak in a certain area you should prepare. For example, doing pushups only gets me so far. I can literally do 300 pushups a day, and still top out under 45. Its only when I do weight training that my chest gets strong enough to achieve more pushups. I did 62 that way on my last pt test, the one before that I did 33 without the weight training. |

Thanks everyone for the help.
I know that I don't "have to" be able to do those things before I go to BMT. I just want to be ahead of the game so that BMT is not to hard when I start e****ally because I am not planning to go in until January/February time frame so that gives me 6 months to get into shape like I want. |
