Hi, I want to join the Air Force to start me on the path to eventually becoming a Nurse Anesthetist which is something I really want to do. I already have 19 college credits. What is the best way to become an RN in the Air Force?
Hello! If you have the money to continue college, I would stay in school if I were you and get as much schooling as you can. Once you are enlisted, it could be quite a while before you could get back into college. RNs in the USAF are commissioned officers and have at least a BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) degree. If you do choose to enlist, if you want a similar taste of what nurses do, may I suggest the jobs of Aeromedical Service Specialist or Surgical Specialist. These jobs work very closely with nurses. I have been retired for six years now, but there was a program called the AECP where enlisted members who have around 60 to 64 credit hours can apply for the program where they may attend college full time to become a nurse. The military also has an excellent program where nurses can train full time (for two years, I believe) to become a nurse anesthetist. Hope this helps.
