MEPS gives you a "junior" version (and they even call it a flight physical!) but it is NOT one. It's simply to determine if you meet many of the basic qualifications and enable you to enlist in a job that requires a class III.
So, yes, you can book an aircrew job without actually having a class III yet.
I dont know if this would help or not, but I'm going in Air Guard as a Load Master and I went to MEPS in June and when my recruiter got the results that I passed MEPS he scheduled a Class III at my Guard Base in July. It was the same stuff done at MEPS except with more blood pressure reading (lying, sitting, standing, and after 2 min light PT), EKG, and ear popping test. But I'm sure Active AF will differ...

That's interesting...I didn't know the Guard did it that way. But, yes, if you did the EKG and ear popping (valsalva) then that's an actual class III.
But, as I stated earlier, for AD it's done at BMT.
My son (who is now an AD load) failed the valsalva at BMT because of a bad head cold (not uncommon since most everybody gets sick in one way or another.) Anyway, two weeks later (around week 5?) he went back to the flight Doc and passed it and thought everything was done. ON GRADUATION DAY he finds out he will not be immediately going to aircrew fundies on Monday because apparently the doc wanted to see him one more time....but he was never told that. Man, was he ****ed. He had to spend the week after graduation at the 319th which he said was hell. But, he passed it again and started fundies one week later. I guess they're super strict about that since you go into the altitude chamber during fundies and you better be able to clear your ears.
EDIT: strange filters....the **** above starts with pis*...not exactly a nasty word.
