Hi everyone. I've recently enlisted in the air force. I've already gone through MEPS, and signed my contract at MEPS, but now I'm just waiting on my leave date for basic and to find out what job I get. I went to MEPS on the 30th of July, and I still haven't heard anything from my recruiter regarding what Job I got or anything of that nature.

Is it normal to wait two or more months to hear something? I know that my ship date could be a few months away, but I didn't realize it would take this long. Should I call and ask my recruiter what is going on or what?

BTW, the jobs I picked were air traffic controller, space systems operations, mental health apprentice, and public affairs, in that order.

I enlisted 13MAR2009 and I don't leave until 10NOV2009 (Almost 8 months!). But, when I signed my contract, I had a guaranteed job so I never had to wait for a job selection. I would call your recruiter, but I am confused about 1 thing... If you enlisted in July, shouldn't you be in DEP? If you are, you are required to call your recruiter at least once a month and have a face to face meeting at the recruiting office once a month as well. Shouldn't you have asked your recruiter during your DEP call or DEP meeting? Just curious. At any rate, yes, call your recruiter ASAP and see if he/she has any new information for you. Good Luck!!!

Yeah I am in DEP, I guess i should have mentioned that. And I have been to one DEP meeting, the last one that my recruiter had, I wasn't able to make because of a ride situation. He called me a few hours before the meeting was scheduled, and I wasn't able to find a ride.

Well, it wasn't hard for me to get my guaranteed job considering it is Security Forces. Apparently, that is the easiest job to obtain in the Air Force. The one's that you mentioned will be a little more difficult to get into I think though. Just guessing. But again, call your recruiter today and see what they have to say and again, good luck!

I went to MEPS early April (probably within first week) and it wasn't until June 10 that my recruiter told me he had a job ready for me, I signed my guaranteed job training on the 15th for air traffic controller apprentice. I don't leave until October 12! Longest 6 months of my life. Hope that helps

I enlisted on August 28, 2009 and I found out my leave date on September 22, 2009. I leave for basic on Jan. 5, 2010 with a guaranteed Imagery Analysis Apprentice job.

I'm actually pretty surprised I got my leave date so quick. I was expecting to leave around March 2010 or so.

wow thats crazy i signed into dep on Aug 12 and i still dont have a ship date thats crazy and i put down open gen as my frist choice i think and listed my others after

i DEPd on April 27th and i didnt get my job and ship date until the middle of August. Got a gurrented contract NDI

i went to meps 9/23 and when i called my recruiter the other day to check in she said she should know my ship date and job by 10/9 so i would call asap

I went to MEPS on July 29th. My recruiter called me mid August with an available Computer Systems Op job which I had put on my list along with Weather, Aerospace Physiology and 2 medical jobs. I selected the open general category as well. Ended up not getting the computer job, but the following week received another call for guaranteed Public Health Apprentice. I leave Dec 8th '09 for BMT. However, I've been seeing many people in DEP waiting around for 4 months+ without any word of a job. It'd odd how some get a leave date with a general category and others just have to wait so long.

I took my trip down to MEPS on July10th and I recieve my job and ship date on August 13th which is 3e4x1 utilities systems not the greatest job but my recruiter told me that I will have alot of time to go to school so I accepted. I leave monday, well tuesday I will be in san antonio.

Enlisted on August 5th, 2009. I had my job in my contract and my ship date. I ship December 29th, 2009. My job is 2T2 Air Transportation.

i went to MEPS and enlisted march 26th and got a leave date 6 months later on september 11th. i leave january 19th, 2010. so im having to wait 10 months ha.

I totally understand the frustration and how you feel. I went to MEPS at the begining of June 2009 & I just recieved my leave day october 19 last week. I was excited I got my job and date but also kinda ****ed because I leave Jan 19,2010 which is an additional 3 months wait. It was all bad I was suppose to leave July 7 09 with my twin sis but my recruiter f'd me over on that. -_-

I leave 19JAN10 too! What's your AFSC? I got 2A3X3, Tactical Aircraft Maintenance.

Just be glad your not Navy where waits are upwards of 9 months.
