When I say "deploy" I mean are they getting sent to the gulf on a routine basis? If they do deploy overseas frequently, how long are the Coast Guards deployments?
Does anyone know what type of training the investigators attend at FLETC. Do they go through the basic criminal investigators course like the ATF, USSS and other agencies, or is it a course specifically designed for the Coast Guard?
Lastly, is this a pretty competitive position to get in the reserves? Do they require a board interview and all that fun stuff that goes along with every other LE position?
1. Hasn't happened yet except for PSO's, but still, "needs of the service".
2. Are you looking at Active Duty or Reserves? Active Duty go through FLETC CITP and the NCIS add-ons. Reserves are already local/county/state/federal LEO's, academy-trained, with at least three years of service and education in the investigative field.
I am looking to go reserve. I am currently a conservation police officer for Virginia Game and Fish. I read somewhere that even the reserves have to go to FLETC for certain training. I did not know if they received the same federal training as the AD guys. I frequently conduct investigations, but I know the way the feds do things are pretty different that us state guys.
Reserves go to the add-on classes at FLETC, formerly taught by IPTM at Yorktown. I'm not sure now where the Indoc Training Course (two-weeks) is taught.
I understand that I need to contact a recruiter and my local CGIS office at the same time to get the ball rolling. One, is this correct? And two, where is the closet CGIS office to D.C.
