My understanding is that you have to have a sqeaky clean record in order to apply. With that said; I have an alcohol incident (over a decade old) and unauthorized use of a GCC on my record. Would these two descrepancies combined automatically cause an application to get shot down?
The GCC incident is related to the purchase of everyday items. Obviously, extremely irresponsible on my part but I wasn't using it for "Gentleman's Clubs" or anything like that.
Any responses/ feedback to this are greatly appreciated!
Are you sure you're applying for the right Investigative Service?
We are MUCH different than NCIS. You have to be at least an E-6 in the CG to apply. You'll have to switch services first, then work your way up to E-6, then worry about what your concerns are that you've posted here.

In a word, "no." ALthough your record/past will certainly be considered (both the good and the bad), there is no specific prohibition against "non-squeaky clean" records. The "decade" ago helps. That said, you'll still be up against other applicants with "cleaner" records. But perhaps other experiences/training/qualifications could still make you a better choice. If interested and qualified, apply.
I appreciate all of the responses! My profile is inaccurate. I'm AD Coast Guard and I'm looking at, in order of precedence, CGIS (very interested) and PPEP (somewhat interested), that's why this is posted in the two forums.
Thanks again!
Oh, coastguard13, all information related to CGIS applications is available on the CG Personnel Command website. The Enlisted Assignments page has a Special Assignments link. Good luck to you!
