Does the CG usually solicit for Special Agents every year? After reading some things, it is to my understanding that you must be tour complete in order to apply. Also, does anyone know that if you do get selected for CGIS, are you in for good? I understand that you can always be pulled back into rate but does this happen with special agents alot? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Generally speaking, once you're in, you're in for good (unless the agent/member elects to go back to their old rate). Naturally, if an agent screws up, he/she can be sent back to the fleet, or in the the case of a civ agent, fired.

Thank you! But does anyone know if they solicit every year for S/A's? Or is it only if they need them? I'm asking because since you can only request a special assignment when you are tour complete then that would mean if they don't I guess I would have to try and extend a year at my current billet or wait until end of next tour. Any help is always appreciated! Thanks again Smile

No.

Contact a local recruiter and the local CGIS office to you and inquire.

Remember, though, you have to be a fulltime, certified (academy grad) local, county, state, or federal LEO with at least three years experience (preferably in investigations) to apply.

Good luck!

Does this apply to active duty CG members too? I understand you have to make E-6 but do you have to have any LE experience, just asking because I am a YN. Thanks for all your help!

CGIS has accepted YN's, HS's, FS's, and other ratings not normally involved in CG LE.

You still need at least 30 semester hours. I would suggest they be in Criminal Justice field in the investigative nature.

Good luck!
