I am sure the are hundreds if not thousands of women worthy of reconigtion for ther servie. One that I was surprised not to see was Martha Raye. She supported the USO in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Her support for the Army's Special Forces earn her an status of Honary Green Beret. LTC Maggie was buried with full military honors in a Military cemetary at Ft. Bragg NC.
I will agree there are hundreds of women who are famous as women at war, but the story that I enjoyed reading enjoyed reading what was called "Ladies' night over Afghanistan" it was the story of four young ladies in a KC-135 stratotanker (better known as a flying gas stating) (I called it a very large naplm bomb it something goes wrong) The first time for an all femail crew to fly a refueling mission into Afghanistan. There was capt Heather and Waynetta (pilot and co pilot), 1st LT alison (navigator) and Senor aiman Lyndi (boom operator). Between the four of them they have almost 4,000 hours in the KC-135. That night Lyndi refuel 10 european F-16 during the flight, off loading 63,00 pounds of fuel. Lyndi the boom operator connected two moving aircraft together on a night with 1 precent moon ilumination (What that is I don't know, but I guess she done special that night)
you can read their story by tying "Ladies' night over Afghanistan" in your search engine.
Too top it off the four ladies didn't look old enought to be doing what they were doing and they were all blonds so this shoot holes in all the dumb blound jokes.
women can do any military job. Anyone can do any military job. 98 percent of it is mental. I'm going into basic in september, have been an avid weight lifter and practised jeet kun do and akido for years, and I know there are women out there that can kick my arse. The real reason that women aren't allowed into combat roles is that todays men are still not all that prepared to handle women as equals. That reflects badly on us, not women.
Recently I was shown a slide show of naked military women in Iraq. I was very shocked to see women in uniform hanging out there breasts and showing there private areas. Some were posing on military equipment as well as with their weapons. Some were using toys in the shower. This is degrading to all women and makes people think what are women doing in combat. I think women should think about that before taking their clothes off to pose.
When War strips of us vanity, we learn to release the mindset ofwhat would not be adhered to as being "good for all" but if the women posed this way, then, this was there way of fun under the extremes..Did it cause harm...only vanity! Apache
what more can I say? Their faces speak their bravery. I salute all the women who have served, are currently serving and aiming to serve the military. You're all pride of this nation!
[I]this is all good and well . I also agree that there are some very skilled ladies in gods corp and I am glad they had the fortatude to do there jobs with a great sense of pride and integrity. but I dont know if I could work along side one
Any nation that sends its females into harms way is doomed. U.S. females sent into combat, not is only sick, but only serves the politicians seeking their votes. I ask you this, "How honorable is it for a man to let a women go before him into harms way?" It's not. Our nation and particularly the military is being emasculated...feminized and soon to be homo-ized. We are doomed! Wake up and get it right!
Honestly,I don't give a crap what having women in combat does to your feelings of manhood. Not everyone is cut out to be a good soldier, male or female. There are a lot of men I wouldn't want to take to combat, just like there are a lot of women I wouldnt want to take to combat. In both cases, they are not the ones volunteering to do so. It's the men and women who are stepping up to the plate today, voluntarily, who I want with me. This country isn't making women do anything. We are standing up and saying "I will go". I will take personal resposibility for the fate of my homeland and I will make a milkshake out of any muj **** that threatens that. You can stand with me in this, or not, but I will be there reguardless, because it's the right thing to do.
I really enjoy vintage photos related to the historic events of that era. Would have to agree with one of the above posts that there a lot of women that deserve utter respect and thankfulness for their input and role throughout the history. I've seen several photographers collecting images who then turn to make calendar out of it - a great idea for something that combines history, images and the story behind it.
While I appreciate the selected photographs, once more I see an abundance of nurses, as though they were the only female officers who served. Not that their service should not be recognized but not the expense of the rest of the women officers who served in vital positions. This is ironic as I just sent an email to a site which features women military veterans and for the Vietnam period nobody but nurses was cited. I find that insulting to the rest of us who served honorably.

As a former Navy officer I find their behaviro insulting and demeaning to the rest of those who serve and have served. It also shows a lack of self respect. They want to lead that life then they ought to find a job on a 'bunny ranch' in Nevada. Sad thing is they will be the first to scream when they are approached.
