i think that we need to move away from the "black" this or that. its seems its a little offensive and divisive to have a black history month, a black tv. channel, a black beauty pagent, black only is racist, just like white only. only when we can celebrate accomplishments without race distinction will we truly be free.
I think that the historical information of the accoomplishments of African Americans in the military was very well done and I thank you for it. The only concern that I have is the enormous emphasis on the Commissioned Officer which is the way of the military. I was hoping to see recognition for someone like CMS Carl Brashear the first Black Navy Master Deep Sea Diver who was an amputee and had a ship named after him. That seems like a huge accomplishment to me maybe even more than some of the commissioned officers that were recognized.
I think the majority (a vast majority of Black People) fought for the British during the american war of Independance. Just to be Accurate you understand.
The latest issue of VFW magazine has an excellent article on the history of blacks in uniform throughout ALL of American history. The article is a brief synopsis but should be required reading for all military personnel. There is a phone number in the article where a print of a "Buffalo Soldiers" painting is available. It would be appropriate for any veteran or military environment. The term Buffalo Soldier actuallly came from the Indians who thought black soldiers were reincarnated buffalo seeking vengeance on the Indian. Although no blacks served in uniform during the Mexican-American war black servants were at the Alamo.
This slide show really opened my eyes and showed me that as an African American Male in the military, the contributions of our fathers before us made a huge breakthrough so I can be here today serving proudly as I am. I am, & we ALL should be greatful for the sacrifises of the men & weman of of culture, race, and heritage!

They forgot the first black aviator who flew in World War I? Who was "Eugene Ballard". He flew for the French and later served on the ground for Americans. He was an American but left the States because of racism and found a better way of life in France. He flew for the French and was shot down recovered from his wounds he join the Americans but they would not accept his aviation status so he ended up fighting on the ground. He moved back to states and resided in New York City.
