I was only 7 yrs old when I saw her come into NY harbor .She was a wreck, but she came in on her own power. Her mast was bent over, but the 48 star flag was flying. We were standing by Coney Island. a Proud Lady! I sailed on her sister ships ,USS Boxer CVS21 and USS Princeton CVS37 And could understand The Cramped Spaces to fight a Fire and the Valiant efforts to save her. The leadership was second to None to keep her afloat and bring her all the way to NY from the Pacific Theater. BZ to the FFs, and DC people To save their home at sea . The Engineering Department Gets a Hand Salute, and a Well Done for staying at your stations with your hands on the Throttles. Some team work! Being a Airdale, I can only Imagine the flight deck and the Decks to the Hanger deck being engulfed in flames and AV gas pouring down fueling those Flames .What a CREW !You Guys Did the Impossable
