I was a ST2 before they tagged out the circuit breakers back in 92. I was wondering if anyone has some good quilty digital ST badges or emblems they would share with me for a project I am working on. Any help would be appreciated. I am guessing most ST's went ET or FT after one of the best rates was shut down. I was on the Jarvis at the time. I think we raised her about 2 feet when we finished off loading the SQS-38 and other equipment. It was good time picking on RD's in CIC. They where such easy targets. They squeled real loud when you could get them to shock them selves on something. What ever happened to STCS Eberth?
Stutterin Chuck Left FLEASWTRACENPAC for New Orleans after the bean counters killed the rate. Got me some great memories of gettin my behind reamed for parking in his reserved spot as an E-3.
lenny ST3-ST1 1988-1993 Pulled the dome off of the Munro at the yard in Bellingham Wash. in 1993.
Ping Jockeys!! I was an ST3 in C school when they killed the rate. I went to the first ST - ET conversion A school, what a party that was. One day instead of going to class, we rented a limo (with a rumbal seat) and off to wine country we went. Tried to hook up with Pual Pena and Brett Richardson last month when I was on an ALPAC, maybe next.
Interesting, I was one of the instructors for the very last class of ST's. I remember the day we flooded the ET shop over on the CG base. The ETC looked like he was about to pass out. I didn't know Paul was still in the Coast Guard. Not many of us left.
He is retired... in Alaska. Brett is also up there, i believe retired. Cutterman65, did you go to the ST - ET "A" school with us? What's your name?
Back to the ET shop. Not only did he almost pass out, he was replaced by a STC. And for the most part we took over that shop, before we all got orders.
ETC Pat Kaschube here, I taught with Chief Cook(Ret), John Braswell,(out), Paul(Ret), Liz(out) and Cathy(Ret) and Rich. The STC that took over the ET shop is still in the CG and I see him quite often in my shop.
Cutterman65 Cathy was the only person I seen after the merge, and that was back around 96 in Honolulu. When I got to the Jarvis, there were two other ex STs already there. So there are still some around
I was amazed, well not really, at how well the former-STs did after having the arrow removed. Many went onto great careers and pissed off a lot of ETs in the process. Having gone from STC to ETC not that hard, sure beat getting #1 or #2 on the E-8 results and no one retired or died so you stayed a Chief for another year, but I ended up retiring as an ETCS. I've heard from quite a few former STs, one of my former ST3s made ETC, (nice job Chris!)another ETC did the CWO to LT deal and retired as an LCDR. I'll have to dig out my list of "where are they now" that someone sent me a few years ago.
Hey, Folks! I'm glad to see that there's still some interest in the old rate. I heard from Chuck E. a while back; he's selling cars in East Texas; he had to bug out for a while when the hurricane hit down that way. Thom Harrington is the XO here at ESU Portsmouth; Chuck Hamlin's here at ESU also. Paul Lamczyk is over at C2CEN, and Pat, well I know where you are. 8^) I've got my letter approved to hit the bricks with 30yrs on 01JUN08. I'd be interested to see who else is still kicking around the Guard. C'mon, don't by shy, speak up. Regards, Allen
How about onloading torpedoes in/out of the pre-Fram torpedo magazine? Yikes, what a third-world nation evolution that was.
Thankfully, it became a second-world operation post-Fram
Though, I still enjoy the look on the SKs face when we actually ordered a torpedo handling dolly to take the place of the non-existent one our shipyard outfit said was on board...
How's about playing "Mary had a Little Lamb" with the handkey when doing the nightly opchecks. Wow, lower sound, what a great place to train astronauts, and trying to discharge the soda cans while rockin and rollin.
Receiver sense and source level, man that brings back some memories.
And yes, the stigma of "ruining" the ET rate, Whoa is me! LOL
