Hello Vets: I was service connected hearing loss (0%) with tinnitus (0%) for many years. Last year I filed for an increase and was awarded 10% for tinnitus, with the hearing loss still at (0%). Currently I have a claim pending for vertigo. Has anyone claimed vertigo as secondary to tinnitus?

I also have a 10% rating for tinnitus and have vertigo. I did not think that was a secondary condition but definitely keep us posted.

I have suffered from tinnitus and vertigo for years. I have even been prescribed medication for the vertigo by my family doctor. I served in Viet Nam in 1970. I'm now on Social Security Disability for other health issues but how do you claim these on a VA disability.

I also served in Vietnam and have service connected tinnitus, with a hearing loss. I'm claiming vertigo as secondary to tinnitus. I just had a c&p exam. You need to see a service rep at your VA to initiate the process. Good Luck!

I was told that the VA will only give 10% tinnitus nothing more or less. But you can get something for hearing loss they consider that another condition.

How did this claim go, rating ? I filed for Meniere's Disease (Syndrome). That was in March 2007 and I haven't been given a C&P for it, but was denied by the VARO because they say there is no diagnosis. Thats BS and they know it. I had the strongest, air-tight IMO that you can imagine... everything in place in the IMO including a strong diagnosis. I filed a Request for Reconsideration in May 2007 and they are reconsidering it, now. I have been rated at 10% for Tinnitus and 0% for hearing loss. My Meniere's Syndrome is well documented, but not in my SMR.

I got approved for Meniere's Syndrome, 60%, that pushed my Individual Unemployability (IU) claim to granted and with Permanent and Total. That was 4 months ago. I had a private doctor do the evaluation and opinion (w/NEXUS), then the VA finally gave me a C&P examination and the C&P doctor made the diagnosis and NEXUS to my military service.

6205 Meniere's syndrome (endolymphatic hydrops): Hearing impairment with attacks of vertigo and cerebellar gait occurring more than once weekly, with or without tinnitus 100 Hearing impairment with attacks of vertigo and cerebellar gait occurring from one to four times a month, with or without tinnitus 60 Hearing impairment with vertigo less than once a month, with or without tinnitus 30 Note: Evaluate Meniere's syndrome either under these criteria or by separately evaluating vertigo (as a peripheral vestibular disorder), hearing impairment, and tinnitus, whichever method results in a higher overall evaluation. But do not combine an evaluation for hearing impairment, tinnitus, or vertigo with an evaluation under diagnostic code 6205.

RVN1968, Congratulations on your award. I have Meniere's Disease (diagnosed in service and it's in my SMR). This was over 20 years ago. I just filed this past January and had my C & P's a couple of weeks ago. I'm not sure what your Meniere's Syndrome is caused by, but with Meniere's Disease, since there is no cure and it doesn't go away, the nexus is pretty much there. I agree with you that a diagnosis for Menieres Syndrome should have been easy since it is technically a term used for having a collection of "Meniere's Disease - like" symptoms and not the Disease it'self which really can't be diagnosed without extensive testing. I hope they at least gave you backpay to the day you filed.

I had a private MD Specialist that specializes in hearing problems and other related. He made two (2) strong statements (in writing) that my Meniere's problems more likely than not originated in my military service when I was wounded in combat. I was hit by shrapnel to the left jaw near my left ear and 3 places in the left leg. I've had dizzy spells, tinnitus and hearing loss ever since. Its all in my SMR. This Doctor said that the explosive concussion effect most likely caused the Meniere's Disease. When I was given a VA C&P, the VA examining doctor concluded the same thing (and, put that in his C&P Report). Those two "expert" statements won me 60% disability for Meniere's. Further, it pushed me over the top so I was granted TDIU.

hi i just left va. Today i had a vertigo attack while sitting down on this pc ive had these before about once a month or so.I went to the emergency room and told the doctor he asked when i first had one of these attacks was i told him many years ago but thier more frequent now.H e asked how long do they last i told him not long bout a miniute or 2 he said it could be meniers disease and looked in my ear saw some small scars then gave me blood pressure medecine to help he said it sometimes helps with meniers.so i came home looked in my smrs and seen i had one episode of tinnitus i reported and i had a prt screen which im not sure what that stands for and i told the commander giving the screen that i was dizzy after a vollyball game he wrote durring game i felt dizzy it was before i vividly remember this early episode of vertigo as it frightened me at the time anyway he said patient says he walks 1 mile a day aboard ship has no chest pains but smokes 2 pks a day and ended by calling it a smoking condition.oh well at least i told them i got dizzy Ididdnt know what vertigo wasw then also no mention in my smrs about all the sick bay visits for sea sickness i had either thats strange. anyhow if a ent tells me i have this ill file for sc and tinnitus secondary to it i hope the dizzy spell helps link it its been 23 years but they did say 1 episode of tinnitus in my smrs ears were ringing and i got ear aches also

Meniere's Syndrome is associated with hearing loss, tinnitus, and dizzy spells (vertigo). Mine was from a shrapnel wound (concussion) near my left ear during combat in Vietnam, 1968. The symtoms still give me bad problems and I've had 'em since Vietnam. The VA awarded me 60% disability after 3 doctors concluded that the problem originated from my combat wounds. That 60% pushed me over the top so I was awarded TDIU and being compensated at the 100% rate.
