edit: SUMMARY (because this was long winded).
Are there any disability benefit differences with the VA between "Honorable" discharge and "General, Honorable conditions"?
This is an unusual circumstance but it's got me wondering if I'm about to lose my benefits.
I was discharged under General characterization with some negative comments. I had a problem with punctuality due to missery related to a current bladder condition and Major Depression now characterized as Schizoprenia... but the command didnt see it that way and disagreed with the doctors and gave thier General.
When i applied for benefits I told them (or they knew) of my General. Through the DAV I applied for a change to my discharge because of the circumstances. We submitted the paperwork and we got a reply from ..the board (?) that there would be an amendment and that it would now be Honorable.
I never did get any paperwork after thaqt but the VA has since viewed me as Honorable on all paperwork. I followed up with the DAV about seeing something offical and they said it could take years.
It has been about 4 years now so I requested my records through offical channelsw with DoD and I got that CD containing all records. Nothing has been changed and there is no record of any request there.
I let my VSO representative know I may still be a General. I'm terrified that now I may lose EVERYTHING if after she investigates it that I never got awarded my Honorable. Is that possible? Has it happened before?
I actually asked her not to check but she told me she should so it doesnt pop up out of the blue on me in the future. Can I stop her? Should I?
What a long road to just lose everything.
General vs Honorable on benefits ...what would I lose now that I am 100 P&T?
edit: General (under HONORABLE conditions) was the original and possibly the current discharge, btw.
I guess it's a pointless worry-wart question. Honorable and General, under Honorable conditions get the exact same benefits. Since I'm replying to my own question I obviously did some research and found my own answers.
I may still be stuck with the absurd General discharge a while longer though. I wonder what in the hell my VSO is checking on tommorow then. The VA does keep adressing me as Honorably Discharged. Could that be thier own view of my complete service record? I do have an Honorable before the General.
I just let the panic get over my good reasoning. I do that sometimes. Thanks for bothering to read this.
(MY 2 cents) Did you save the paper stating it would be change if so, thats what you should make a copy of. attach your paper copy of the results from the board then send it. That should be enough to have the record changed asap. Nothing changes just more paper added. Good luck squeeky wheel gets the grease.
