I just got approved for the Chapter 31 for Voc Rehab and i'm going back to school. Is there a rating table for how much of a monthly stipend you get or do they just go by your total household income.
Go to the VA homepage then go to VR&E, it should give you the table with the amount. It's based on the amount of dependents and if you will be a full time or part time student. I have a wife and two daughters and I"ll be a full time student. I will receive $816.00 per month. It is not based on your income if that was the case I would not receive anything as I have a well paying job as an aircraft mechanic.

That should tell you what you'll receive as a stipend. Now, can anyone tell me if these are tax free or not? I'm thinking of going back to school and have already been approved for Voc Rehab (it was 1.5 years ago that I was approved, so I hope it's still valid, lol).
Thanks. Yea it's tax free. I'm going full time and i'm doing a work study also.
How much are you being paid for the work/study program?
I have been in VocRe for a year, my pay is 872.00 for a wife and three children. I also did work-study, it pays minimum wage. You get paid every 50 hrs of work, and it can take 10 days to get paid.
Thanks for the info, are you retired?
Wow. I hope it's different in different places for work studies. I start class on the 14th of Jan then i'm supposed to get started with my work study. Does the stipend come on the first or what? Since i don't start class till the 14th i was wondering do i have to wait till the 1st of Feb to get my first stipend check.
The federal minimum wage is what they use. You get the stipend paid promptly on the first of each month. My classes start in the middle of jan also, expect a partial check on the first of feb. You can also ask your counselor for an advance.
lol. That sucks donkey balls. Oh well. I'm just glad i'm finally in the program. I've been fighting with my counselor since July trying to get in and i'm still not going into the degree i want but it's not bad either.
Man, I start classes Full Time on the 13th. Panty 6 has been beating my ass on,"Is your stipend tax free?" I knew that many, if not all of the VA/Voc Rehab payments were tax free but just found out from a good friend who does taxes.
The best part is if you are a vet with ANY learning type/Retention type problem, the Speech/Audiology department at your local can get you the following:
These items help to take notes, read your notes and assist one in organizing study notes for easier reading and use
