We keep having the same questions over and over, on multiple topic threads. If you see a topic that covers your issue, please read it, the answer may be there. If your question was not answered, ask it on that thread rather than starting a new one. We have several people who are in the know on this board, they will assist you. If we follow the same and correct path we will arrive at our objective, or destination.
Thanks, DaveBarker PS: It is quite time consuming to reinvent the wheel every few weeks. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Dave_M, |

Proposals
RVN1968: Under the directory "Disability Compensation" there are no subtopic sections. That seems to be the problem. "Open Discussion" doesn't help because its just a hoj poj of every concern regardless of the issue. Maybe, if there could be sub-sections that are labeled like: 1) C-file and Service Medical Records 2) Initiating a Claim 3) Veteran Service Officer's (VSO) services 4) Claim Status, Information, and Followup 5) Physical Disabilities 6) Mental Disabilities 7) Combined Ratings 8) Permanent and Total Rating 9) Individual Unemployability (IU) 10) C&P Evaluation 11) Independant Medical Opinion 12) Special Rules for Combat Vets 13) Submitting additional evidence 14) Appeals (move this from the other main section; it belong here) 15) Agent Orange Claims 16) XXX BMCS: This may sound institutional but if we had a way to standardize the way a subject name is assigned, it would enhance the search feature of this web site. Subjects such as 'I have a question" doesn't help much, but if it said 'I have a quesion about low back pain" then anyone doing a search for low back pain would see that thread. Without an actual topic, it may or may not be seen again. I think if we try something like this, it will become a more user friendly site, and will get more traffic because of its ease to search for and find an answer. Sometimes people have specifics about their case. Still, if the low back pain (or whatever the most important ailment in the thread is) is in the subject, it will be easier to find by people like me later. Thats my 2c anyway. --Jim Life is good! SSGTDeCurtis: Dave! Both ideas have merit. The first has the benefit of being in one place for one of the Moderators being able to find a question or answer pertaining to the topic heading. The second has the benefit to the member, being able to get noticed "immediately" and getting his or her question answered. There is a solution, I believe, that may help the situation. For redundant topics, copy and paste the URL of the topic that answers the question, if it's basically the same. Also mention that the topic will be closed, due to the fact it has been answered, over and over. See what the response it, and make the final decision, based on the response. Or, just shoot the PITA and go to the next question. NavyAW: Well I voted, voted to limit the topics, I have not been here that long, 2 months? And have seen a lot of the same questions ask over and over, some when the same topic is only 2 posts down. I know people stop by for a quick answer, but they might find a better answer is they read the topic already at hand. PoiPup: Anyway to put a post at the beginning of the topic (that will always be the first post) that can explain how to post, how to post pictures, and general guidance about posts (mainly for newbies, but for everyone else also)? I did a search for how to do posts on the forums and it has over 600 pages on "posts". I only went into about 2 or 3 pages and most of those were questions about how to post pictures. Don't know that I would have the time or patience to go through all 600+ pages to find an answer to my question. Just a suggestion. |

I have looked at the issues for a while now and I agree with RVN1968 the current structure does not provide a workable solution to the problems posed. It appears to me that we are 1 forum to low in the structure to accomplish what you want to avoid losing information. I would suggest looking at splitting from this point : Veteran's Issues Discussions for all stages of your career! Aerospace & Defense Careers 17 62 Supply Chain Manager employmen... Careers in Education Careers with Deb Hirsh Disability Compensation and making a forum (Veterans Benefits) at this level with subtopics Claims processing Examinations Education benefits medical treatment issues For those of you who know POP and VBN you have seen what I am saying, If you want C+P info on his site it is clearly marked as a Forum and all questions relating to it are to be posted there, at the top of each sub area there are FAQ and Hot topic items that are read only and the threads are closed, locked and never moved. The only people who can add a new Major topic area are the Admins when they determine a new one is warranted. I personally do not see why Aerospace & Defense Careers several other employment forums and Sound Off on Partnership for Public Service have to do with Veterans Issues I see that as Employment information that would be better listed under that topic as a stand alone forum, There appears to be numerous duplications of subforum content across Military.com Forums in this manner. I do not see copy and paste as a viable solution because it is very prone to errors that render the link useless in the end. DaveB if you would like to discuss what I am saying off the board I would be happy to do so with you by e-mail or if you have Yahoo messager I can provide you with my handle there and we can discuss it by voice |

I am now deleting posts that a simple questions and moving them to Open Discussion or to the trash. If you have a question that is simple in nature and can not find a related topic with the search engine, then post it on Open Discussion.
