The Cowboy Soldier





The Soldier was sitting there against the wall

With bullets flying, he wondered how he could take it all

Then he remembered his young Cowboy days

Working fences, shoeing horses, & feeding the cattle hay

He remembered asking his Father how he worked like that

I Cowboy Up my little Cowboy, now get your hat

He would ride with his Father and work from morning till night

Then ride back home and do it again at first light

If the ride would be days, on a mule his supplies he would pack

Now he carries as much or more, but on his back

He's traded his boots and chaps for battle gear

Instead of horses and cows, bullets are all he can hear

I've got to Cowboy up, and a Man is what I've got to be

For my fellow Soldiers are all depending on me

The fighting is now over and its the end of the day

Now I lay here remembering the days I lived the Cowboy Way
