Folks,

It is well known that the Iranian military and para-military forces study the history of conflicts between a powerful military force and a much weaker military force. See the photo below and the small water craft and guess where they got this idea. Hint> It is from US military history.

Dear Member,

Good guess. <GRIN> But seriously the Iranians have studied the Confederate attempt to break the blockade of its ports in the American Civil War. The Confederates offer a large prize in gold for Union blockade ships sunk. And a lot of private individuals came up with ideas. One idea was the "DAVID" semi-submersible torpedo boat (the torpedo was a "spar torpedo" mounted on a large beam in front of the vessel). That is the bases of this attack boat. It can "sink" itself in the water so only a very small portion of its top is above the water (what the glass observation and small radar mast and snorkel is for) so it can approach ships undetected and get within torpedo range.

Now whether the old concept will work in actual combat is another thing. But you have to admit it is interesting.

Well we kicked their (The Iranian’s) Azzes pretty badly back during the “Tanker War” in 88… I’m sure they are still smarting from that and will want to “get some back” if the shootin’ ever starts again. Which I’m sure it will.

But sadly I get the feeling our Navy will be too busy with “focus group” training or “equal opportunity awareness” enlightenment the next time the S#%t hits the fan, especially in light of the new POTUS…. How do I know????… Roll EyesTrust me, I have highly credible sources Whisper who are “In The Know”….

That's funny - I'm working with a team of senior Naval Officers and civilian specialists creating tactics and techniques for dealing with fast attack craft in the littorals. Not a focus group or equal-opportunity group in sight...

Your "highly credible source" 'In The Know' must not be anywhere near the people who count.

Folks,

Note on this thread. Congress passed a bill which made it a crime to be a crew member of an unregistered and/or unauthorized semi-submersible or submarine. Crews of semi-submersibles smuggling cocaine into the US would open valves and sink their vessel (along with the drugs and proof at a trial) knowing the USCG or who ever would pick them up.
