Makes about as much sense as moving the whole Mine Force to Texas in the first place..

At the risk of sounding foolish for using the word "assume." Can I assume that we won't have any minesweeping assets on the East Coast?

I assume that is a safe assumption. Smile

Did you ever notice how nobody pays any attention to the Mine Force----UNTIL a mine goes off underneath one of those "War-Fighter" ships. Roll Eyes

I "think" right now they (Ships & Brass) are for the most part homeported in Ingleside, Tx... Thats subject to change in a heartbeat....

One thing its safe to say, you never know from one minute to the next, where the "Sweeps" are gonna be...

The article linked to clearly states that ALL activities, related to mine warfare, that are currently located at Ingleside, will be moved to San Diego.
That includes ALL the MCM's currently homeported at Ingleside.

I think the part that both Willie and I find hard to believe, is that the Navy would put ALL its Mine assets in one basket. Then again they are ONLY Minesweepers...

It was stated on another thread hereabouts, that ANY ship can be a Minesweeper.....ONCE.

Good luck as you work your way out of Norfolk, Newport, Jacks Junkyard, KingsBay etc., etc.. Charleston won't have to worry cause years ago we did some Sweeps with a Leased Civilian Fishing/Shrip boat. Worked pretty fair for "Moored Mines," however you're on your own when it comes to "Influence" mines....

I would guess that this does not effect the ones in Sasebo, Japan which were four or five ships last I checked. Rode the little wooden darlins for about five years, they didn't have much respect then either, sort of like a special tool you only pay attention to it when you need it. A toast to the USS Snatch, not a sweep but I like to toast a Snatch every now and then. Westpac Willie Beer
