I am curious to what colleges you all attend or want to attend? Do you go/want to take classes in the classroom or online and if you like the college? This might motivate others who are scared to start college or go back to school. I attend Columbia College of Missouri I will be getting my Bachelors Degree in General Studies. I took this track because I do hold an Associates degree in Computer Science and they took most of my classes toward my degree. I have been in the classroom and now I go online. I love going online and will never go back to sitting in a classroom. Columbia College is an OK college but prepare to work your butt off for your degree. The price of a class is not bad $615.00 a class cheap for online classes. Hopefully, this fall I will be attending Columbia Southern University online for my Masters the price is right for me and they cater to adults.

I go to a state school. I dont do too many online courses, I get more satisfaction in actually going to a classroom and listening to the professor. Tuition is $1700 for 6+ units a semester.

I got my BA from Whitworth College (now Whitworth University) in Spokane. It's a private university, so it's pretty expensive. I'm considering either looking into getting an MA or MBA online, or getting certified in real estate; haven't decided yet. While I attended normal classes at Whitworth, I think that I would feel more comfortable with an online program anymore; it grants a little more flexibility, which I think will come in handy, especially if we have kids soon as we hope to.

I go to a private university as well. Campbell University in NC. Tuition was over $9,000 this semester for 12+ credit hours. Thank the Good Lord I got a really good scholarship last year and I have my GI Bill that actually covers all the rest of it, except my books. I would never be able to afford it otherwise, but when my scholarship came through, it was actually cheaper for me to go there than to the State University.
I took an online course this summer and I actually enjoyed it. I was surprised b/c, like Mustang00, I like going into the classroom. I like the interaction with the classmates and the professor. Plus, if I have a question, I get an immediate answer. I don't have to wait for a response which may take an entire day. Before I got married I took some classes from University of Phoenix Online and didn't really like it. It was super expensive and, I don't know, just didn't enjoy it that much. I handed in my last paper for my last class for my master's in higher education administration yesterday! Woo hoo!
I go to a state university--and I paid about $2,500 a semester with books and fees. I did all classroom courses, with one class that did both. I did ok with that because I already knew everyone I was chatting with online. ETA: Going to a classroom gave me opportunities to make friends--I now have a group of classmates that I regularly talk with and we support one another through everything. My husband is taking master's courses through UMUC--and I don't know how he does it. He has group projects all the time, and for many of his classmates, English is not their first language. It makes for some challenges but he loves it! My friends from my undergraduate college cannot believe that I am getting my masters--I was just not a very focused student then. I am proof that if you're willing to work hard, you can accomplish your goals. Good luck everyone! |

Wow!! Congratulations!!! That has GOT to be a great feeling to hand in that last paper for your last class!! I can't wait.
When I went to UOP online, I had group projects do too and I was in a group where we were all in different time zones. That really sucked!!! I got my BS from a state university, attending as a traditional student. It was about $1100 per full time semester. Then I met my dh, who has drug me around the country and world.
since then, I have taken additional undergrad classes at UMUC online, and did my testing at the base ed center. I also took an online program in medical coding through a local state funded votech college. UMUC's prices were reasonable (I think it was $187.50 per credit hour), and the votech's were free because it was in Georgia and they have a HOPE grant for technical education. The votech college classes supplemented my BS and I was finally able to get a job related to my undergrad work, as a medical transcriptionist. (moral of the story - do not get a BS in Health Education and stop there - people have no clue what it is and think you want to be a gym teacher) I prefer face to face classes but with the kids and our budget (childcare so I can go to school is too pricey), and dh's work schedule, its going to be a while before I can do that again. I'd like to get a Masters in Public Health some day. |

Tweetee, I started my degree at Mizzou - right next door to you! I followed my DH, so I'm finishing my degree at the local state university. I much prefer sitting in a classroom and taking notes. I rarely read textbooks so don't enjoy the online/independent study types of classes. Although, I'm going to be taking some upper level Biology and Chemistry these next two semesters, so I need to start reading more!
I'm getting my B.S. in Psychology with a Clinical Science emphasis, and a minor in Biology. I'm planning on taking a year off and then getting a Master's degree in Genetic Counseling. |

Hey myguybri, where do you plan on getting you genetic counseling degree from? I have always been interested in genetic counseling, but we have never been stationed close to a school that offers the degree. |

I got my undergraduate at Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi, but I am graduating next month with my MBA through the Saint Leo University MBA online program. The prices are not too bad for an online program, and they offer military dependents a discount. My husband got his BS from there too. They offer accelerated courses, which I love. I am finishing my MBA in a year.

It's been lovely, but I have to scream now.![]() |
I just completed my Associate's Degree in Paralegal Studies at Kaplan University in March, graduation was in August. I have already enrolled in the Bachelor's of Legal Studies at Kaplan, as well. It is a perfect fit for me with four kids and military moves.

How do you like UMUC for grad work? I was thinking of doing the Bioinformatics program through them one of these years. |

My undergrad is from St. Leo University. I attended classes on the base, there were 5 semesters a year. The cost was fantastic (VA then charged military out of state tuition, not sure if it's the same now) and I was very pleased with the University. My husband got his MBA using the St. Leo's online courses. He was very pleased with them, too, and would recommend them to anyone. I'm currently working on my MBA at Shippensburg University and am pretty happy so far with the education there. |

This always amazes me. I work for the federal govt in contracting--which now requires each contracting officer to have at least a bachelor's degree with 24 credit hours in business, in addition to on the job training and a formal training program consisting of 13 classes (some two weeks long). There are about 25 contracting officers who work in my division. Of those 25, 22 were grandfathered in. Of the 25 only 6 have a degree. And our base pays 100% tuition and books! So what is their excuse? Why do they need one? They were already grandfathered in and because they complained that Philly COs were given GS11s to attract people to work, that they, too, should be GS 11s. Boy do I hear snide comments when I mention taking classes. |
