Hi I've never dealt with the education centers at either base we have been at. We are overseas in Italy now and i'm just wondering what can they do for me as far as finding a distance program? Can they help me every step of the way or is it limited since i'm just a spouse? Thanks!
I haven't stopped in for two reasons, #1 Because we are overseas and have only one car. Transportation is not an easy thing at the moment since we have just recently arrived. Car insurance in Italy is outrageous. #2 I didn't want to go in totally clueless.
Have things changed on these boards so much in the last few years that basic questions can't be answered? It used to be such a helpful and friendly place...
I don't think what Mrsjvb said was meant to be mean. You don't have to "walk in" to ask a question. You can always call. I live overseas too, granted I have my own car--I don't drive everywhere to get questions answered.
Do you have a magic spell to get them to return calls? lol I wouldn't have posted here if I hadn't tried that... Suppose I should have stated that but this base is infamous for not answering phones and not returning the messages left for them. Once we get a car, i'm sure I can get the answers but it would have been nice to get an idea of what they can offer in the mean time. As for Mrsjvb's response, wouldn't it have been easier and less condescending to just say they can do x,y, and z. Again, basic information, general? I'm sorry but people come here and ask questions for help and direction when they don't have access in their outside circles. Currently I know two people, both who just PCSed in as well and both who have no more information than I do (I did in fact ask). I'm sorry if I sound abrupt or short but it's just frustrating to ask for information and get blown off with a reply as Mrsjvb gave.
HI rodeo , I'm soon going to naples , Italy and I already got registerd for classes with the UMUC Europe , they offer classes in the support site and online , this link might help you
What base are you at in Italy? We just left Aviano last month, and the education center there is great, and staffed by very knowledgeable people. I am doing a Master's program through UMUC and always got the help I needed.
If you are at Aviano, I know a girl who works at the education center, and my UMUC field rep, who is a recent retiree. I can give you either one of their names, numbers, or email addresses and I am sure they will help you with whatever you need.
Are you looking for college education for yourself? We just left Naples and while we were there I worked on my BS. The NAvy relief Society has a Spouse Tuition Assitance Program that helps to pay for part of your classes. The college I graduted with was UMUC Europe, University of Maryland. They offer face to face and distance education. I had some really great professors there. If you want more info I woul dbe happy to share my experience.
Thanks for the news. My husband retired several years ago from the U.S. Navy and when I volunteered at Family Services we were attempting to establish a "Job Bank" spouses and dependents could use to establish a co-hesive work history that was not choppy from the various relocations. It is a pleasure to read there are educational benefits spouses and dependents can access. I am not a military spouse now but my heart and prayers are with you.
Distance learning schools should be able to help you with your questions. Some that are very qualified to work with Military and spouses are: University of Phoenix National University Coastline Community College Central Texas
