My husband and I are about to pcs overseas and since I've been told by people at our new base that jobs are basically non-existent for spouses (and I'm leaving a great job), I'm hoping to get unemployment.

I've read some posts giving advice, which I intend to look into, but has anyone had any success with it? I've heard in NJ that even though the state passed the bill for military spouses to get it, they "fight" it. Anyone?

Thanks!

It's been my experience that no state will pay unemployment benefits because you voluntarily left your job. Doesn't matter if you are a military spouse or not. I left a great job when my husband enlisted and we got moved from our home in Alaska to the armpit of Oklahoma where I couldn't get more than a minimum wage job. And now that we've pcs'ed again, I can't get even a part time job in Washington state. I've tried applying for unemployment and been told "you left your job voluntarily, no benefits for you."

With the cost of living and tax/insurance rates through the roof in NJ, I wouldn't hold your breath for unemployment benefits to be paid out. Sorry, wish I could be more positive, but I wish you luck in the battle Smile

Check out this post for a discussion from a few months ago on unemployment. Some states will let you have it but others won't.
