Hello, i'm a Marine Corps spouse and I was wondering if anyone out there has or will be attending the University of Phoenix. I'm curious as to how the process was and if there is any assistance out there for me. Thanks

Do you mean online? If so, I went there for a semester, but I didn't like it. Also, be prepared b/c it is very expensive. My GI Bill didn't even come close to covering it.
The people were great though, the process of enrolling was really easy for me and the same with getting my books, but I just didn't like it very much. I'm a classroom girl mostly, I guess... As for assistance for spouses, I can't be of much help. I never did a lot of research on that b/c I got a scholarship and have my GI Bill for the rest. What state are you in, though? Are you in NC? That is where I live and I remember a friend/colleague of my talking about a state fund that helps spouses get their degree. A veteran - whether active duty, retired, National Guard or Reserve - is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand that - Author unknown. |

I attend online as well. They gave me a scholarship, and also a military discount on the cost (I pay 1200 a class for the upper level courses). All you need is a dependent ID (and I think they do it for vets with a DD214 but don't quote me on that) To get the break and talk to the military division. They have a specific section of staff devoted to military.
Unlike the previous poster, I have had no problems paying for the school with my MGIB, but I got a kicker as well. The MGIB is currently at about 1100 a month, and since classes are 5 weeks long it's about break even. With the kicker......let's just say it's much nicer. As with any school you are eligible for financial aid and the pell grant. |

I have a question. I've been trying to see what classes they offer online. But it seems the drop down box doesn't work.
Also it's requesting for a phone number both day and night. My question is how do I plug in an international phone number. I would like to see if I can apply for scholarships and the pell grant as well, but I need to have a school to attend. Before I can even get any information. Any help would be nice |

I have a Masters in Education from the University of Phoenix. Yes it is expensive, but they have people that will walk you through the financial aid. I suggest finding an office and calling and talking to a real person. For me I needed a masters ASAP since I was going through a divorce. The state university wanted me to take the MAT, put together an application portfolio, three letters of recommendation and wait for acceptance and would have taken 9 months to just start. The University of Phoenix required a $75 fee and I was taking my first class within a month.
Hope this helps

My Daughter is doing online classes thru University of Phoenix and is not paying a dime, in fact they give her about 2k a year to do what ever with and she doesn't have to pay anything back. She just had a baby, so it helps out alot. She is not married yet, but is planning on getting married next year. She was told that they would give her more $ back if she was married. She says it's hard, but well worth it. They called her almost every day to see how she is doing in the begining, so much, she got sick of their calls..lol..
I myself plan on doing online classes also soon. Good Luck Sheila |

I'm taking classes at U o P now, and the GI Bill is paying for it (as a matter of fact, I come out about $300 ahead of the game per month). They do give a discount if you are a military family member.
It's a great way to study, for me. I am enjoying it. |

"Oops, did I do that, I'm such a clutz" |
I received my MBA from UOP online. Unless things have changed, they don't give a discount to military dependents because I didn't get one and I asked. They do, however, give discounts for active duty military and I'm not sure about reservists.
I think it was great. Wrote a TON of papers and learned a lot of things from the people who worked in the various fields. Since my background is mostly legal (I'm a paralegal by trade), I naturally excelled in the legal business class. All in all I learned a great deal from doing it. I'm also more "finacially" savvy than I was before. *S* Good luck! |

I work with UOP and there is a discount for active duty, their spouses, and reserves and their spouses. Classes work 2 different ways: There are campuses if that fits your schedule or there are online classes.
We do specilize in Military students. We are more liberal with accepting credits from the Military and using them for college credits. Please let me know if you have any questions and maybe I can help you. Good luck! This message has been edited. Last edited by: Lindseyf, |

I'm currently looking into this school as well. It seems like a pretty sweet deal for military. If you talk to someone on the phone they are very helpful!
