Hello! I will be moving to Virginia Beach on February 15th from Florida. I have been searching online for jobs but I haven't come across anything. I graduate in May with my bachelors degree in Psychology. Im looking to work a part-time job until a graduate. I would then like to work full-time. If anyone know of any places that are hiring and could send me some information, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There are several sites that you can check out and look for jobs.

www.careerbuilder.com
www.usajobs.com
www.monsterjobs.com

To name a few. I would also suggest that you try googling Virginia Jobs or something like that to pull up their state job data base. I found all these helpful, to a point, when I first got here.

I still haven't gotten myself a government job but have been on plenty of interviews. I work in the private sector though.

Also, if you're looking for part-time work in your field, try the local hospitals. Sentara Hospitals are in Hampton Roads Area (which are the 7 cities that are practically right on top of one another).

Just a suggestion if you don't want to deal with a lot of traffic, stay on that side of the water (Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Portsmouth) because it is a BEAR!

Wife...,

Welcome to the area. My husband and I arrived on Jan. 8, and I had a job by the 18th. I also have a degree in Psychology, but I couldn't find anything in the field, but I do have banking experience. Try local banks, especially credit unions, which is where I work. They really like college students (especially mil. spouses), because they don't offer benefits to their Part-time staff and they are willing to work around your schedule.

Here's the thing. People believe because you work at a bank that you will make lots of money. This is ONLY true if you have experience. With no experience, as a part-time staff member, you will probably start off making $9.50-%10.75 an hour. I know this may not be much, but even though you are part-time, you will get paid ALL federal holidays if you are scheduled to work that day (sometimes different banks can have different policies), and you will be off by 5:30 at the latest during the week. I work 9-5 on Mon-Thurs. and 9-6 on Friday. I work 2 saturdays out the month from 9-1 p.m., and I hold a supervisor's position, so my schedule is more hectic. Just give it a try, and put in your application for every bank you can find. Good Luck!

I work for several military newspapers in this area. You can always check the weekly base papers classified section for opportunities. Also in May, we're holding a Military Spouse Career Fair at Naval Station Norfolk.

Check out these sites for more info:

sorry only official military websites or those owned/approved by Mil.com's parent company(Monster.com) are allowed.
