I've always done resumes for my friends and family...sometimes getting paid. I've decided to launch an actual "on the side" business from my home of writing resumes. If you do something like this, is it a requirement to get a business permit from the city you're working out of?

It depends on the city and state. You might want to check your town's website if they have one or call the township building to get information.
