My husband is active duty and it appears that we will be moving to a new duty station every 2 - 3 years. I have been successful in finding work, but professional development and advancement is difficult when you move so frequently. I would like to incorporate my own consulting business and work from a home office. But since we move so frequently, I am not sure about the best way to make this work given all the varying state laws and taxes. I would hate to have to incorporate in each new state we move to, that seems like it would be a nightmare. If anyone has any experience, advice, or information regarding a resource available to help counsel military spouses in developing their own businesses, I would appreciate any info you could pass along. Thank you!

If you're thinking of incorporating your business as opposed to setting up an LLC or LP then you can choose any state to incorporate your business in. Nevada is a great place for corporations because it offers the best asset protection, privacy protection, and there are no state taxes in Nevada.
Whenever you move to a new state you would only need to qualify to do business in the "new" state as a Nevada Corporation. I've been reading 'Own Your Own Corporation-Why the Rich Own Their Own Companies and everyone else works for them' by Garrett Sutton. It explains the differences between LP, LLC, C Corp. and S Corp., etc. I highly recommend it for a better understanding of starting a business-mil. spouse or not. |
