I'm a PR major and DH is in the Navy, so I don't know why I never thought of starting a career in military PR. Does anybody know anything about this career field?
Officer? opportunities are limited.. only about 50 new PAOs are accepted each year. Duty Stations are pretty limited to high Fleet Concentration areas.
On the enlisted side, MC is pretty full and very tough to get into as well.
At our Army installation, all of our public affairs people are civilians. I know they have to go through an internship at an installation, as well as training in DC, then are sent to wherever the Army needs them. I can probably ask our PAO director if she has any advice, if that is something you are interested in.

It's something I've been trying to look into, so any information you can give me would be great! Thanks
For the Army, officers who are in Public Affairs do so as a Functional Area and not by branch. This means you can't branch into this field but can get into it latter in your career.
