Anybody know where to find (or if there exists) a list of career fields that MyCAA considers portable??

I've combed through all the info and FAQs on militaryonesource and can't seem to find a definitive list. I'm sure it's probably right under my virtual nose, just not seeing it!

Thanks a bunch!

don't worry about it, just apply and let them decide...

I got approved for engineering, which is listed no where on any "portable" list I've found from anyone (including one source).

Granted, I can't use it now, but that's another story

It seems that recently they went from a list of approved fields to just suggesting portable careers and letting you choose your path and then hope they approve it.

The first I was aware was when catherine here came back saying they approved engineering. I went to myCAA and it seems much more far reaching than before when it was limited to the pilot program bases/posts and careers.

Like she said, go for it!

Does anybody know if they'll let me use it with my college transfer program? I assumed not but between the website and you guys' input, I'm not totally sure. I'd rather stick in my program than get the extra money, truth be told.

What's a college transfer program? Like, prepping for a traditional University?

Yeah, basically gen ed, but with the purpose of transferring (fewer electives than one would assume).

I believe it.

myCAA is pretty specific in that you have to be pursuing a career goal. They may make you wait until you're in a full university pursuing a degree or career more directly. But, who knows? (though, for what its worth, traditional school will incur more cost, so you may want to save it for then anyway)

Yeah that's what I figured. I made the account last night so now I'll just sit and wait until I can use it. Smile Thanks for the help!

I have found them to be very helpful, both on the phone and over the Internet. If you have questions, don't hesitate to call them. I started using mine recently and I am already halfway through my BS degree. Another good source could be your school (my school's VA rep was very helpful when it came to the combination CAA/GI Bill question).

Can't hurt to try!
