Hi, I will be relocating with my significant other to Kings Bay, GA June 2008. He is in the Navy, and I am looking for employment but having trouble finding a job that pays well.
This question is for anyone who is familair with the area. But does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations of employeers in the area that pay well, preferabley nothing less then $15 an hour? Would like a occupation that makes more then that is possible.
I have a back round in customer service, call center work, I was an Insurance agent for 6+ years, and data entry.

Honestly, the cost of living is so low in Kings Bay that that chances of finding a job that pays $15+ an hour are very low unless you are a tradesmen working in the shipyard or an engineer.

The economy just doesn't support high paying jobs.

Edit: you might do better looking for jobs in Jacksonville. But, then you have to factor in the commute as well.

Well I am open for any suggestions for the surrounding areas as well. I believe Jacksoville is not that far away

Cost of living in Jax isn't that high either, but you have more of a chance to find a higher paying job.

Jax is not that far away, depending on where you go. It's a very spread out city, so commute times could run from half an hour at the North end to 1 hour at the south and east ends. So, be careful where you look. They're really trying to revitalize the city, so it's probably the best place to look. Even then, most jobs in the region pay between 12 and 15. I just did a search on career builder for clerical work in Jacksonville and came up with a bunch.

Hey. I live in Kings Bay and have exhausted pretty much every employment option possible. $8 an hour is considered a good paying job here...minimum wage is alot closer to average. I know that some people have had a little bit of luck working for VT Griffin (maitenance) or security jobs out on town. But other than that you might have to drive down to Jacksonville or elsewhere. Good luck though!

Actually, I believe VT Griffin is no more. When GMH took over in October, they did away with them. I could be wrong, but this is what I've heard. Now it isn't even GMH anymore.. They sold housing to someone else.

Anyway, previous poster is right about $8 being a good rate of pay around here. It's virtually impossible to find anything better with the background you've listed. (Not that there's anything wrong with that, but there are so many Navy wives around here with the same background, they just aren't hurting for people enough to pay more, & the cost of living is relatively low.)

Jacksonville is also an option, but as previous posters have said, it can be a bit of a commute. Jax is only about 20 minutes south of here, but it's a VERY large city in terms of land mass & it can take well over an hour to reach the southside, even without traffic.

Express Scripts is about the highest paying job in town for someone with call center experience. I'd try there.

I have a friend whose dh was stationed at KB and they lived in Ferndinanda (sp?) Beach, FL. She worked at a resort and he commuted up to KB w/o a problem. They had a nice place close to the beach & did pretty good.

My in laws live in Atlantic Beach and there is lots of businesses around there, always building new malls, etc... So you can try for that area too as an option. it is definitely lower cost compared to some areas.
