Hi all,
I am a Marine wife and I NEED HELP on deciding on what I want to go to school for! I plan to get my Bachelors or atleast Associates degree in SOMETHING but am completely clueless as to what I want to study. I loveto sing and I model part time but that is just too unrealistic as a career for me. I am only 20 years old and currently a Phlebotomist (i draw blood all day but I have found that this is something I dont want to do for the rest of my life!) I love makeup, fashion, etc, but I dont think CAA would cover tuition for that. Plus I HAVE to work while going to school so my only choice is to do ONLINE schooling, but I would like some feedback from experienced military wives who have been through what I'm going through now. Please help: What have you gone to school for and ended up with a good paying job you are happy with?? |

If you love makeup and fashion, (and I know this is not online), have you considered cosmetology school?
Just a thought. Even overseas, there is a need for employees at the barber and beauty shop (I know someone who much preferred the barber shop - fast, men weren't so dramatic, she did not have to listen to them prattle on about stuff). I'd hate to steer you towards something you dislike. What is it you don't like about phlebotomy? The patients, the hours, the job? If you like health care, check into some options there. One thing you can do online if you can find a program is getting your RHIT or RHIA credential (T is a 2 yr program, A is a 4-yr program). I think AHIMA accredits the programs in Health Information Technology/Administration. |

Definitely not true. I worked full time and went to school full time for both my undergrad and grad degrees. If you love to sing, and assuming you're any good at it (honestly, a lot of people like to sing but aren't any good), have you considered the possibility of a music degree with the future goal of being a music teacher? |

Thanks for the reply.
I have looked into Cosmetology School but the school here doesnt offer night classes As far as Phlebotomy, I dont mind the job. The hours arent bad either and the pay is just OKAY. I'm not busy most of the day so I sit around and wonder "what else can i do with my life?" all day long. Thats why I wanna take advantage of the CAA assistance that the military offers for spouses. I know I dont want to get into nursing. Its overrated. But thanks for your suggestion on RHIT/RHIA.. That is something I could possibly look in to |

Well the only reason I said I can only do online classes is because I have so much time on my hands at work, I'd prefer to go to school online because I could be studying and doing homework AT WORK. Besides that, I do love to sing but no, I dont see myself as a music teacher. I'm one of those people who can sing but know nothing about music sheets lol. Thanks for the suggestion though. Ahhhh this is so hard.... |

So, since you don't know what you want to be when you grow up (neither do I and I have a grandchild), try approaching this from a slightly diffeent tack. You are thinking about going to school because you have time and means but don't know what to do. Almost all degrees require English, Science, Composition, History and several other areas. While you're still trying to figure out what to do, take those classes via some school that will allow you to take online classes. More and more schools offer online classes. You might try starting with your local community college/junior college to see if they have anything. You can also look into Univ. of Phoenix, Nova Southeastern Univ. or North Central Univ. They all have large online departments. This will give you the opportunity to move forward and do something with your spare time while figuring out what to do.
