I am also wanting to continue my education when we move to Hawaii. Has anyone been in the nursing program there. What was is like, was there a campus that does nursing on base?

There isn't a campus on base that does nursing itself, they might offer classes towards it. HPU does do classes on all the bases and you can get your basics done that way and then go from there.

For working in Hawaii to be honest it can be very difficult they have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the US, for a long time it was the lowest. You can't work on base at the clinics or the hospital in the medical field itself as usually those are military only. If you do clerical it might be possible.

Both HPU and UofH have nursing schools in Honolulu. I'm assuming you don't already have your RN, otherwise Phoenix would also be an option. A couple of community colleges also offer nursing programs if you are willing to go for you LPN, LVN or RN without the BSN (which is needed to move up as an RN).

As far as working, I queried Monster and got 390 hits for Honolulu without any filtering. In comparison, Tampa had 2250 hits. This can give you an idea of what job opportunities are like in the Aloha state.

HPU does have classes on base so you can start there. If you do have to commute from KBay then it actually won't be too bad to either one, figure 45 minutes each way try the Pali Hwy first. HPU is actually right in downtown Honolulu. You can always take the bus to there, it is an excellent system and cheap, definitely cheaper than car parking.
