Does anyone have any disputes about question on SWE?
The question about oakum that said it was made of old rope and hemp. As far as I remember oakum is made of the bark of the jute tree. I wikipedia'd oakum and it came up made from fibers of jute plant.

The question about what repair locker item used to repair a rupture in firemain. Choices were:
-internation shore connection
- pecu
- 2 1/2 nozzle
- forgot 4th option
But none of these fix the rupture, internation shore connection can get you firemain but it will just leak out at rupture.

The question about saber saw how many teeth on blade must be in contact with material being cut?
Well what is being cut, what is the thickness of material being cut, what type of blade is being used and teeth per inch on blade. You would need to know this info to answer that question.

The dimensions of the bootwash for CBR, where in the world can you find that answer? I did look and still have no clue.

There were several question that asked about the newest or latest equipment. Like the newest how EVAC puts vacuum on system. How in the world would you know unless you were on a brand spanking new cutter.

I ordered new DC2 and DC3 material 3 months ago and never recieved it.

Anybody else have any questions they couldn't find the answer to, post them and I'll help find them.

Crack those books! The answers are in there. Lets not put to much out some people might not have taken the test yet. Plus you might find it hard to get answers from the people you are competing against...

I doubt that many people have not taken the servicewide. If you happen to be underway you have 10 days after the normal test day to take test. Probaly not a lot of situations out there where you would have to wait to take the test. It is ridiculous to say we shouldn't share information. May 09 SWE is over and it is unlikely any of these questions will be on Nov 09 SWE. As far as telling me to crack the books that offensive because I think I did good on the test. I just think some of the questions were written questionably and a few are impossible to find answers to if you didn't know the answers. I talked to a few people who took the DC1 SWE and we went over answers to questions we didn't know and shared answers. This is the cooperation we should have in our rating not all that secret squirrel sh*t. I'm not looking for test answer I'm just seeing in DC's out there want to share knowledge. If you don't oh well, I wouldn't want to work under you.

Per the first question you asked, I believe said internatioal ship connection which is diffrent from the "I" shore connection. The size of the boot wash is 2' x 2' x 6" I would place an order for those books again.

The repair locker question was on the DCC SWE also and I challenged the question. The forth option was a box patch. The bootwash question has been on every DC SWE I've ever taken and I know for a fact it is in the CCA section of either the DC3 or DC2 CBR book. It's not hidden either. There are no trick questions, if you don't know the answer write it down after the test and research for the next SWE. Last year I thought the same thing when they asked the size of the canteen and I was wrong when I went back through my books and found it. If you know for sure the question is wrong take the time to challenge it. Don't get ****ed off when people don't share information, that is what the DC Plugs are for. This is different. Some of the questions on these test aren't going to make us better at our jobs but will set us apart from our competition. We have a cut throat rate with minimum promotions every year. I will do everything in my power to help the DC's under me become the best at what they do. However, I will not share information that I worked very hard at to retain with someone I am competing against. Questions like the bootwash question could be the difference in being number 20 or number 10. Good luck to you.

I quessed right on the bootwash question. I challeged 3 questions including the sabre saw question, the repair locker pipe rupture question, and another question I was wrong about. I wish I challenged more questions like the latest or newest equipment questions. Why would you know answers about ship specific equipment like EVAC system. What is the course writer referring to by newest? I have never been on the Berthoff and I haven't read there SWBS Manuals. It is true this is a competion but I only asked about a few questions not 125 questions.

If you READ your course books, you will know what the course writer is talking about. Look in your DC3 plumbing PQG. It explains The "older EVAC and the "newer" system very clearly. You don't have to be on any particular cutter to know this stuff. You just have to crack those books. If you can't get the books sent to you, go online. The course material is at CG Central>My Workspace>Career Management>Enlisted>My Rating> DC. The latest DC3 and DC2 are out. The DC1 will soon be.
Hope that helps.

I thought it was a good test overall, I feel like I missed a couple of easy ones. Hopefully scores will be out by the end of the week.

Me and two other Senior Chiefs all studied together to make E-8. We are all now Senior Chiefs. Some will retain information better than others. Each of us put a lot of time and effort into making electronic documents to email to each other too. If you truely want to be the next higher pay grade, you really really need to study like you want to be the next higher pay grade. Afterall the test is 65% of the final equation. If you write a smokin test it won't matter that the next guy got better marks, or more award points, or has dinosaur points. When you want it badly enough you will study hard enough. I am married with two kids and now have also finished the AA degree in Construction Technology. You have to make time in life for certain things and I think the SWE is a major step and you need to make the time.
