Any news on a possible replacement to the ACU. I was at Ft. Benning last year and people were talking about a possible pattern change at the Infantry school.
Current ACU is good for combat in a Gravel pit but not good at all in Korea, Europe areas.
This subject tends to really tick me off. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that they don't blend in well, except on gravel.
The BDU's colors and patterns worked well, the DCU's colors and patterns worked well. Sure they could have used a few upgrades, not Velcro hell, but slanted and arm pockets, and pad holders for the knees. But the WORKED as is.
The Marines got it right with the MARPAT, and that's what really ticks me off. As a taxpayer, I'm downright furious.
Last I heard they used American taxpayer money to develop and field the MARPAT's, not some Marine generals private piggy bank. Who the hell decided that the best availible is only due to one service, escpecially when all American serviceman would have a better chance of survivability using the MARPAT?
Let the Marines keep the little globes and anchors, keep the eight point cover, and keep the pride they now doubt have in being Marines.
But share the technology, the FULL technology with all the other services. MARPAT should become USAS-PAT (United States Armed Services Pattern). If it turns out the Air Force and Army top brass are the ones fighting the idea of fielding the best gear to ALL the troops, fire their butts on the spot.
Guys, that Multicam is unreal. I still am very disappointed that the services did not go with that. ACU, what the hell????? AF tigerstripes???? But, I do like the sage green boots. I'm not even gonna talk about the Navy......
I'm a former AD Marine and i think that the ACU/MAR-PAT are not what the entire military should be using. Multi-Cam is the way to go. The ACU/MAR-PAT are only good if you are perfectly still and in an environment that is suited to those colors. Check out the pics of multicam from various envirnments. All the gear that I have is Multi-cam.
