The Boarding Officer Qualification Support Program (BOQSP) was created
exclusively for SELRES members and its lifeline is in jeopardy due to
low SELRES enrollment. Active duty have filled 1/3 of the seats to
avoid cancelling sessions for this SELRES course.

Members who fall into one of the below categories NEED to enroll in this
course and include this course as part of their individual development
plan:
1. Reservist currently conducting boardings.
2. Reservist in a known Boarding Officer CPRL billet.
3. Reservist involved in enforcement actions at the Sector and
District levels. (Junior Officers)

The course prerequisites are the Boarding Officer Web Based Training and
the Boarding Team Member qualification.

We have over a hundred remaining quotas for FY08 for these sessions:
5/12-5/23
6/9-6/20
7/7-7/18
7/21-8/1
8/4-8/15

Please ensure the members in your AOR are on track with their training
requirements. Each month CG-131 publishes the SELRES available C School
courses/quotas at: http://www.uscg.mil/reserve/training.htm

For detailed information, please view the Reservist Magazine BOQSP issue
(page 22) at the link below or ALCOAST 408/07:

Is it possible for reservists to get the active duty BO course?

Possible but not likely considering the money your unit must spend to send you. At least one Reservist from my unit attended the AD BO course. Quite frankly, if you can swing it then go and forget the BOQSP. The level of training and support offered in the BOQSP isn't on the same level as the AD course.

Furthermore, you'll be lucky if your unit can even support the mission, i.e. get you qual'd and on the water doing boardings.

Just my two cents...hopefully you'll have a different experience.

I attended the third class of the BOQSP and felt it was well put togther based on the needs of the reserves. I agree the AD version is more involved, but the course was designed to enhance reserves opportunity to attend as well as create more BO's for mission accomplishment. If you are a reservists contemplating going, you should do it as it is well worth it.

The web-based training was one of the better courses that I've seen around the different military e-learning sites. Each end of section quiz reinforced the material in the lessons, and the entire course was put together quite well. The EOCT was fairly difficult as well.
