I'm sure someone asked this question before but i'm a little confused. I'm 24 year old and a Police Officer do I have to wait a few years before I can join in the REBI program?

I believe you are confusing the Direct Petty Officer Program and REBI (Reserve Enlisted Basic Indoctrination).

The Direct Petty Officer Program takes civilians with a job skill (like a police officer), evaluates them, gives them a rate (PO3, PO2, etc.), a rating (BM, MK, PS, etc.) and enlists them.

They are then sent to REBI to learn about the Coast Guard (sort of a two-week Basic Training or Boot Camp without the extreme harassment).

And no, you don't have to wait to get older to enlist. I believe 37 is the oldest you can be without a waiver.

Talk to a recruiter: 1-800-GET-USCG or gocoastguard.com.

Good luck!

If you are going to enlist under the RX program as a Port Security Specialist then you'd attend REBI.

If you are joining and going to PS A school, then you would more than likely go to bootcamp. REBI is typically used for prior service and people over the age of 30. Your young enough, the 8 weeks would be great experience for you, instead of cramming everything into 2 weeks. CPO Kalbach

He's been to the office quite a bit. When you are isolated like we are, we take all the Coast Guard company we can! CPO Kalbach
