hey gang, i was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to change your job once in the cg reserves. lets say O two years down the line you want to switch from BM to OS. is that possible or do you have to ride out your initial contract? also can you go from reserve to active duty or do you need to wait until the end of your contract as well. i really want OS but my recruiter told me it would only be avail on the active duty side. however he did mention that periodically the avail reserve jobs change in our area so i am hoping that if i go in as a BM i could change in a few years. I also want to put in an officer packet in a few years

Taxpayers are paying for your training, they are going to want some return on investment. If there is a need for OS down the road you can put in a request to change ratings, the worst that can happen is you get a NO.
Same thing goes for active duty, the Reserve side is paying for your training, there's 2 pots of money so the Reserve will want some return on invest and whatever job you are doing in the Reserve, the active side will have to have a need for it for you to go active.
Sounds like you need to sit down some more with your recruiter to get details hammered out. CPO Kalbach

Assuming you're qualified, why not go for a commission now? Like the Chief says, the worst that could happen is they say no. If you settle for something you don't want out of convenience, you are setting yourself and future shipmates up for a lot of frustration. You can make the system work and get the job you want, but it may not happen in a short time. Rock on!
