Are you issued the ditty bag that is deducted from your pay like the one issued to the basic trainees. Do you get a complete seabag that is required of A school?

We were not issued the ditty bag, but we were required to purchase some items on our first trip to the PX. You are issued a full seabag your second day there.

They are issued there, and you may bring your own. Personally I thought the ones I brought were more comfortable, but you will be issued a pair of New Balances when you get there.

Hi everyone, I'm headed out to REBI in April. I was wondering if the swim is timed? My recruiter said no, but I think the Cape May website says it's timed at 5 minutes. Anyone who's been there recently? I have to confess to being a bit nervous about the timed aspect. Heading to the pool tomorrow morning! Thanks...

Got done with REBI 22FEb08 Honestly, they say its time...I am not sure. When I took my test..i dont think anyone looked at the clock, just as long as we completed in a timely manner. But who knows..my face was in/out of the water. If you dont pass..you can take the remedial swim everday at 525am. It sucks but 2 of our guys had to do it and did not make, did not graduate. So they are serious when they say pass you swim/pt. Plus, the recruits have 8 wks..you have 2. So my advice...put 200% in the 1st time and you wont have to worry about doing it again.

On a different note...we went to the gym at around 530..the number of recruits that were in remedial swim...30+ was a little disturbing.

What mileage did you get up to on runs...that what I want to get to work on. Not just make 1.5 but get ready for the workload.

Thanks for the info! I went to the pool today and did 50 meters in 1:30 with the breaststroke, then did my 5 minutes of treading water immediately after so I think I should be good to go, I kept swimming for the next 45 minutes or so. I was just worried because the breaststroke is so slow compared with the crawl, and my crawl was in sorry shape! Smile Thanks for the info though, it's definitely re-assuring...

I am not sure what you mean by the mileage? I was running 1 1/2 i.n about 12:06 on a treadmill (weather was too cold for outside). Even outside, I made the run in 12:15. I did the regular stroke on the long parts and the breast stroke on the short parts to savesome energy. The best part is the treading water. Good way to relax.

Oh sorry, I meant mileage on PT runs... not the fitness test.

We only got to go on one big PT run and we went about 2 miles I think. It wasn't that far. They told us that they usually do at least two, but there's a lot of stuff that just comes up that prevents more.

I was also curious, due to the above razor comment, can we bring electric razors or do they have to be the more traditional variety? Thanks again, all this has been really helpful!

Check the website, but I believe you can bring an electric razor to REBI.

You can bring your razor, cell phone, the rooms are set like a cschool or college dorm atmospher. The rooms have a microwave, fridge, cable tv. Not to bad for 2 weeks.

Sounds like a good break from my noisy kids! plus I won't be forced to watch Hanna Montana and Zach and Cody...

Surely it's got a be a bit more spartan than that? I wouldn't think there would be time for TV!

Did you all receive any study materials from your recruiter before REBI? I think the guys going to basic get a copy of the Helmsman, but so far I haven't received anything?

RE: Cable TV -- You don't have much time, but there's a pretty good amount of downtime in the evenings, where you can turn on the tube while you and your roommates are polishing boots, ironing shirts, studying, etc ....

RE: Study materials -- I got a copy of the Helmsman about two days before going to REBI and used almost none of it. You get a copy when you get there, and the information is very useful when you get out to the fleet, but you don't use much of it in REBI. You don't need anything in advance, all your materials will be provided upon arrival. You can always ask your recruiter for a copy of the Helmsman, it can't hurt.
