Hi:

I have been told by a recruiter that I may qualify for the CGR- DPO program. I had 2 questions.

1) How long is the active duty reserve requirement of the 8 year contract for a reservist?

And 2) If for employment/family reasons I needed to move locations in a couple of years, can I transfer units?

I know that in talking with Navy Reserve recruiters they seem to be very open about transferring units, so I was wondering if the same was true of the Coast Guard. And if so, is it common for reservists to transfer units?

Thanks!

answers:

1) ussually 4yrs out of 8yrs, but sometimes you can different contracts.

2)yes you ussually can transfer, but the process might take a few months. (you have to go some where with an open billet[re;job slot] for your rate)

For question #2: There has to be an open billet for you to fill. It also has to be within reasonable commute distance. However, i live in Houston but start drilling down at South Padre Island because it was the only opening in the state, you would have to fill out a Page 7 that states you accept all travel arrangements for duty. The Page 7 has to get approved from the higher ups.
