If you got selected for ROCI class 01-08, post here and introduce yourself!
I'll start!
My name is Sean Fay, shocking from my screen name huh? I'm from Myrtle Beach, SC and was picked up by ISC Miami and hoping to get something in Charleston, SC for my actual assignment.
I am in law enforcment and am prior service Army, enlisted but that seems like many years ago...because it probably was. I look forward to getting to know everyone!
Congrats Sean and the rest of you selected for ROCI Class 1-08!
Military.com is a very good conduit to meeting your soon-to-be-classmates online before your training reporting date. Almost half our ROCI class found their way here in the month before reporting to the academy to say hello, ask questions, and swap scuttlebutt. We even planned a get-together here for the night before falling into the chaos (which was a big help in knowing each other a little bit before the yelling started). I HIGHLY encourage ROCI 1-08 to start correspondence here in socializing and preparing for your indoc.
I will likely meet you in New London for some pro-dev while you're there, but feel free to ask questions about the CGR now as well.
Hello and Congrats to all, My name is Shawn Ballentine and I also am a proud member of ROCI class 01-08. I am from Crown Point, IN. I am an Electrical Engineer and prior Navy enlisted. Also, seems like many years ago because it was. I am looking forward to getting to know my classmates and to beginning our new career in the USCG.
My name is Thomas O'Brien and I also got selected for ROCI 01-08. I am currently a Federal LEO in Columbia, South Carolina. I was a prior local LEO in Texas and prior E-6 MP in the U.S. Army where I got the nickname potatoes, hence the military.com ID.
Sean and Shawn look forward to meeting ya'll and our other classmates at ROCI 01-08 in July.
Sean I noticed you were in Myrtle Beach, if you would like to meet up before hand drop me an e-mail.
Congrats everyone and good luck...you'll enjoy your time in New London. Time is short so get to know each other and help everyone get squared away.
You should consider meeting up the night before indoc to meet everyone personally, share stories, and take the edge off. It's nice to know that others feel just as anxious as you.
My name is Jenn Wong and I have also been selected for ROCI 01-08. I live in Washington, DC and was picked up by ISC Portsmouth. I'm new to the military so any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.
Have any of you received your official letter with dates, etc.? My recruiter forwarded the e-mail from recruiting command, but that is all I have. Should I be concerned?
Regarding ROCI dates: I found this in a Coast Guard Reserve message. "SRDC SELECTEES CAN EXPECT TO ATTEND RESERVE OFFICER CANDIDATE INDOCTRINATION (ROCI) TRAINING ON 07 JUN 08 OR 12 JUL 08." http://www.uscg.mil/RESERVE/msg07/alcgrecruiting/rec09_07.htm
However, I it was posted Aug 07 so who knows. I just thought I would share.
Well done everyone! Craig Bailey from Boston Ma. and was AD Coast Guard from 1991-98. I left to finish college, start a family and a new career. 10 years later I find myself with a wife two sons a graduate degree and have been a full time city police officer in Mass. since 1998.
Once again well done and I will see you all in a couple of months.
ROCI 1-08 Reporting Date: Friday, 13 June 2008, 0730 Chase Hall Annex D Social Hour: Wednesday, 2 July 2008, CGA Officer’s Club* Graduation Events: Thursday, 3 July 2008, Washington Parade Field / Leamy Hall*
That said, don't take those dates as official from me. They might be but wait for official notice from the CG. Someone posted an earlier message from last August with the ROCI report date as 6/7/08.
Good call not posting 'advice' about what to do at ROCI. It's probable many OCS instructors are reading this and will make adjustments based on what is posted.
My name is Brett and I have been picked up by ISC New Orleans. I am an attorney in Jackson, MS and non-prior military (did have one year of fun in ARMY ROTC at Providence College). I live in Jackson, MS.
I was fortunate to be in 1-07. Good luck, keep your eyes in the boat, and for heavens sake, don't brace the bulkhead where a fire extinguisher used to live. I did, and the hook going into my back, hurt like hell!
Enjoy the grinder, and as any good officer will tell you: BE NICE TO CHIEF... He will save your *** more than once. EMC Suazo, if you are reading this, Que paso papa???
Hello, shipmates! My name is Daren Devlin and I was picked up by ISC Alameda. I was AD Coast Guard for almost 10 years and now work for the San Diego Sheriff's Dept as an intel analyst.
Still haven't heard anything official yet, but I'm looking forward to meeting all of you next month.
George- Did you go to OHS? My sister was looking for a few of her old friends - her name is Jennifer McC*****. I like to do "detective" work (trying to find people on the net) and wondered if you were the right George. Email Jen at jajdynomite@yahoo.com - she would love to hear from you. Thanks, Tracy (Jen's sister)

Would love to get with everyone the night before. Sounds like a great idea.
Brett, question for you: Did you join the CG Reserve AS AN ATTORNEY, or do you just happen to be an attorney who is also joining CG Reserve? Is it possible to join CG Reserve Legal without any prior JAG experience? Thanks.
