I am 35 years old and am interested in joining the reserve. I have visited several websites and am waiting for a call back from a recruiter. In the mean time I figured I would ask a question I have not been able to answer. All I have read of the REBI program refers to FF and Police Officers. Would that program be open to someone like me, who is not any of the above but has a lot of work exp. and a real desire to serve his country? Or would regular basic by my only option? Any help would be appreciated

Typically the folks that attend REBI are prior service, or have a civilian skill that will transfer to a Coast Guard job. Typical LEO's transfer to the Port Security Specialist job. If you have the qualifications, you might be able to be sent to an A school after REBI. Your local recruiter is going to have a better pulse of what you can do based on your specific situation and the Reserve need in your area. CPO Kalbach
