Say an enlisted reservist applies for ROCI. The reservist passes the oral board and is awaiting the decision from recruit command. During the waiting period the reservist is selected for Title 10 for one year in duration. Generally speaking, what could happen to the reservist? Pulled out of theater to attend ROCI? Attend ROCI then sent back? Pulled out of theater, sent to ROCI, then Title 10 is terminated?

Are we talking "sandbox" deployed, or just Title 10 activation deployed?

I was involuntarily recalled (Title 10) after 9/11. I "deployed" to my unit and spent over a year there. During that time, I was promoted from PSC to CWO2. I attended the old CWOI (now CWOPD) Course while on Title 10 "deployed" to my unit.

Are you setting up your scenario that you are deployed overseas somewhere when you get accepted to attend ROCI? ROCI is still only two weeks, to my recollection.

Define "deployment". Just because you are involuntarily recalled under Title 10 doesn't mean you are going overseas.

When we were in Kuwait in '03 we had two people get selected for ROCI, they accepted, were sent home a month before it started, were taken off T10, sent to ROCI and transferred to other units. They don't keep people in units after ROCI because it is hard to make the transition from enlisted to officer in the same unit. You can't go out with the guys you did a month before ROCI anymore and there needs to be that separation in the chain of command.

In agreement with the other posters - typically selection for a commissioning program like ROCI means reassignment to another unit after completing the program. There would be no good reason to deploy someone with full knowledge that they are going to be sent back to never return midway through the deployment. As a Selectee you are in effect, discharged as a enlisted member, and commissioned into your new role as an Ensign somewhere else. My unit deployed for OIF in 2004 and our ROCI selectee did not deploy with us and was assigned to a billet in the next state over upon completion of ROCI after three (3) weeks.
I personally think it is best that the newly commissioned have a break from their previous (enlisted) unit. Imagine the potential for resentment when an E5 or E6 comes back to the old unit as the new Division officer. Some of the old shipmates might have trouble accepting the new Ensign's authority and he/she might have some reluctance to directing former peers or Chiefs.

MarineBM, IM_IT, JerryG: Thank you for the insight. This was very helpful, especially for planning the next move in my CGR career.

JerryG, yes, I was referring to an overseas deployment.

230:

Your Profile has you in DoD. Are you in another service now?

In the CGR, PSUs and possibly RAID Teams have reservists in them, and they are the only OCONUS deployed Reservists I know of. That is just a fraction of the approximately 8000 CGR folks serving now.

Are you currently in one of those types of units right now?
